•OUTSIDE•
•OUTSIDE•
The casita sits on 10 acres that you’re welcome to explore; keep a look out for cool rocks and fossils. I’ve left a collection of ones I’ve found on the plant stand, feel free to add to it so others can enjoy your finds! We have two working ranch kitties that live outside and roam the property freely. They’re both very friendly and may hang out with you while you're staying at our place. They are outside kitties so please don’t let them swoon you into letting them inside. If weather permits enjoy a fire in our hand made fire pit. Anti gravity chairs are provided for world class star gazing. Vintage glider under the shade cover for lounging and taking in the views.
A hand built smoker and a grill; be sure to bring your own wood/charcoal and lighter fluid! If you use the grill or smoker please shovel the ashes into the barrel provided the next morning after they’ve cooled. A hand built disc golf basket with discs.
You will have the entire house to yourself.
There is a pool that you can access for $5/day at the Terlingua Ranch Lodge. It is a 17 mile drive from our place on east on Terlingua Ranch Rd.
•OFF GRID•
This is an off grid home. It runs on solar power and rain catchment. That being said it does have limitations. We can power only what is included in the casita and nothing more. The only exception to this is charging your personal devices. Failure to accept and follow this rule will result in loss of battery power which will leave you with no power.
•WATER CONSERVATION•
This is the Chihuahuan Desert, water is scarce and of utmost importance. Please accept that you will have to conserve water if you want to stay here, you can contact me if you're not sure how to conserve water or read the notes that are in the casitas welcome book.
•FIRE SAFETY•
Although there is a fire pit provided please use safe fire practices. Do not have a fire if winds are high. NEVER leave a fire unattended and be sure to EXTINGUISH all flames when you are finished. There is a shovel provided, just shovel a small amount of dirt on top of the fire to snuff it out. The desert is a dry place and fires can spread very quickly. Fire extinguishers are located under the kitchen sink and outside to the right of the smoker for emergencies.
•HELPFUL THINGS TO KNOW•
•This is a remote area. We highly recommend planning your trip to arrive before dark - it is incredibly dark out here and much easier to get around during day light.
•Once you leave Alpine you will not have cellular service. Some carriers will show minimal service in some spots but don’t count on it. The closest Wi-Fi is on the porch at the Little Burro Country Store.
•There is a grocery store in Study Butte but options are limited and things cost a bit more, it’s a good idea to bring what you want to eat with you.
•All stores close at 9pm or earlier.
•Keep in mind that there’s only a handful of restaurants to eat at and during peak season the waits to eat can easily exceed 2hrs.
•Headlamps and flashlights are helpful for navigating the property on nights when the moon isn’t so bright.
