Wonderful cottage!
Finding the property and check-in couldn't have been easier. Google Maps sent us a slightly different way from the hosts' directions (Grove Bridge instead of Crab Creek). Either works fine. Mountain Shadows is in a hilly area with homes scattered a bit apart. There is a creek running down by the cabin. It was completely quiet when we arrived, because Penrose hadn't had rain in a while, but it poured rain our second full day, and then the creek roared. The cabin was great! You can just see another property from the porch, but there is a covering protecting you from prying eyes. Hot tub pro tip: if you want to use it your first night, check the temperature when you arrive and raise it. It was 96 when we first looked and took two hours to reach 98, which was just barely warm enough that first night. The next night we had it at a toasty 103 and were much happier. The hot tub is a small one - really for two people. It worked well. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, pans, and utensils. Everything was super clean. The furniture was comfortable - just be aware the sofa is quite low, and if you are a senior citizen and have trouble getting out of low furniture this might be a problem. The bed was on the firm side; bed and pillows were quite comfortable for us. Our favorite part was the temperature control! Each room has its own thermostat, plus there is a thermostat for the fireplace. The fireplace kept the living area amazingly warm. We had a great stay!

Pros: location, hot tub was clean, fairly well stocked kitchen, mostly private hot tub area cons: ANTS (oh my god so many ants) , uncomfortable beds, cleaning demands at the end of stay were a little ridiculous when we already paid a cleaning fee

Very cute little cabin. Nice and private, loved the sound of the creek. The only thing I would change is the blinds in kitchen and some of living room wouldn’t close. No blinds in twin bedroom. Also the queen bed needs a thicker bedspread for this time of year (fall.)

Living in a downtown area, this was a nice peaceful escape from hearing sirens and trains. The house has pretty much everything you need and is close enough to stores if you need more. We would definitely book again.

We had a good stay once we got there, but our GPS took us to a different home a few doors down - would have appreciated some written directions ahead of time that clarified the location. Also, had no way to reach the owner because my VRBO app wasn't working due to WIFI challenges in the area. Again, once we got there, was a nice location and as advertised.

Relaxing Weekend
The home is set in a very peaceful area, tucked away in the woods for privacy. Close to many natural attractions, state parks etc. Close to small towns to get supplies or have lunch or dinner. During the stay the hot tub was great for relaxing, beds were comfortable. The property owner was easy to get a hold of if you needed something or had a problem.

The place is exactly as described. It was spotlessly clean and smelled great. It is right next to a small creek. Charcoal grill right next to the property made some memorable dinners. While checking out, we had forgotten some our stuff there, and David was able to retrieve them from the cleaning folks for us. Overall a great experience.

Everything went very well. We love the location and the fact that it's pet friendly too. Everything is very clean & well maintained. Only a 10 - 15 minute drive from the Pisgah National Forest or Dupont State Forest. We will be back again for a 3rd time soon!
