The cottages are located on their private island called Sheep Island. Charleston Lake Provincial Park surrounds it. You can enjoy a comfortable cottage while exploring the island's two hectares of mature forest and its diverse ecosystem. On the waterfront, you will see a small beach, a dock, a floating raft, and a Tarzan rope. You can also grab a canoe, kayak, paddleboard, or rowboat to explore the lake.
On the island, you can walk around the forest on a trail that nears the water, climbs up a cliff, and crosses many coves. After a hike around the island, you can head down to the large dock in front of the house for a swim. With a thirty feet swim, you can reach the floating raft or use the Tarzan rope to get in the water. Behind the dock, there is a small beach next to a large white boathouse. From there, you can grab a canoe, kayak, rowboat, or paddleboard and explore the lake.
From the main dock, a set of wooden stairs lead up to the house. In front of the cottage, you will see a fire pit surrounded by white chairs and a hammock. This is where the marshmallows are usually roasted. You can enter the house by the large screened-in porch that surrounds the house. There is a large table on the veranda where you can have outdoor sunset suppers while being away from the mosquitoes. On the other side, you will find couches and low tables that are perfect for a morning breakfast with the sunrise.
Entering through the front door, you will find a large stone fireplace surrounding the three main areas. The first one is an office with bookshelves and a place to sit down and work. An entryway leads to the living room, where you will see a low table surrounded by leather couches where board game night can take place. Right behind the couch, you can take part in a game of pool on the full-sized snooker table. Another entryway leads to the dining table where you can have dinners and suppers when the weather forces you indoors.
From the dining room, you can take the stairs up to the bedrooms. The first bedroom out of the staircase has a small desk with a queen bed, as well as a view of the
forest. On the other side of the hallway, a smaller bedroom with a queen bed has a view of the lake. Next to it is the master's bedroom with a queen bed and a private balcony with a view of the lake. In front of the master's is the first bathroom. It contains a ceramic shower as well as a heated floor. A fourth bedroom enjoys a queen bed and a semi-private bathroom. The fifth room has five single beds and has access to the semi-private bathroom.
Back down to the first floor at the other end of the house, you will find the kitchen. A large wooden island separates a table from the cooking area. You will find everything that you need to cook for the whole group, as it is equipped with fridges, an oven, a dishwasher, dry food storage, and all the equipment in a conventional kitchen. You can also use the barbecue on a wooden porch right outside the kitchen.
In front of the cottage, there is a field of grass where you can play different sports. You will find soccer, football, and rugby balls as well as golf clubs and different outdoor games on the veranda.
If you're looking to explore the Charleston Lake Provincial Park, you can ask for more details from your host. There is a multitude of camping, canoeing, and hiking options around the whole lake.
- Access -
The cottage is located on Sheep Island. You will be able to access the whole island and the cottage itself. There is the laundry room behind the kitchen that will be locked off and only accessible by the host. There are also four other buildings on the island that are not accessible as they are used by the host.
The house is on an island, so access is only possible by boat. This season, we ask guests to bring or rent their own motorboat to get to and from the island.
- Recommendations for your stay -
For food, we do recommend that you bring groceries with you for the whole stay as there are no grocery stores on the island. Although, there is the possibility of delivering groceries to the mainland address.
For safety, we have installed fire extinguishers in most rooms in the cottage. In case of fire, head down the path to the white boathouse as a meeting point. From there, we can use the two powerboats to get off the island and to safety. For injuries and health problems, the closest hospital is in Brockville, Ontario.
As the listing is a property on an island, certain accidents can happen. We have installed multiple security measures for fire and made the property safe and kid-friendly. For liability measures, you will be asked to sign a liability waiver in case of accidents to be able to use the property. Note that in fifteen years of renting, no serious injuries or problems have come to our guests.
