Woke up this morning with rain pitter pattering on the canvas of a beautiful yurt while listening to wild birds, chickens, and ducks. The yurt is well built and at the same time pleasing to the eye. To be in nature while washing clothes for a family of four on a New England Road trip is well.... glamping. Our Yurt has comfy beds, appealing shower fixtures, and a grill to be desired. The shampoo products, sacks of mint and lavender appealed to a scent sensitive individual. Thanks to the essential oils I could enjoy the products without a headache following. So grateful for Acadia Wilderness Lodge as it facilitated memories of nature for a family of four who really doesn't like to "rough it".
Cellular coverage is spotty on the island. Google maps took us about 1/4 mile north of here and brought us down a hidden driveway of a private residence. We were lost and confused for about 20 minutes. We decided to keep on driving. This made our find that much more appreciated. The premises are beautiful- you cannot miss the yurts when driving Kelleytown Rd. Our luxury yurt included a beautiful full bathroom, AC and heat, a full-size refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker, toaster, sink in the kitchen, private full-size BBQ and microwave outdoors. The hosts were welcoming, and the accommodations are great for families of all ages. The premises are open and make you feel like you are camping, with all of the comforts of a luxurious hotel room. We are so glad we did not stay in crowded Bar Harbor. Our kids were glad to return to our yurt after each day of excursion.
Be sure to make a reservation to Cadillac Mountain in advance and visit Sand Beach and Thunderhole. Look for Beech Hill Farms as the baked goods are delicious and reasonably priced. We bought organic produce to grill. Big named grocery stores are about 30 minutes away. Gotts grocery store has a little bit of everything including lobster rolls and pizza. There are many small spots on the island to taste local lobster sprinkled throughout your travels. Next to Acadia Wilderness Lodge you will find a neighbor who sells chicken and duck eggs for reasonable prices which can be cooked in a pan on the grill. Small little stands are located on front yards, a few sell baked goods, honey, and jams. It is on an honor system where you place money in a jar and grab your bakery item. The yurt allowed us to really enjoy the local vibe.
