Chalet Pepé is a stunning chalet in the beautiful mountain village of Champagny L'Haut. It is just a 5 min bus or car ride up the mountain from Champagny en Vanoise, a popular village ski resort linked to the huge La Plagne / Paradiski ski area. At 1500m, you have sledging and tobogganing outside your chalet for most of the winter and you can join the cross country trails from your doorstep!
Chalet Pépé is a beautifully converted, traditional Savoyarde farmhouse, with its own private swimming pool, steam room and sunken outdoor hot tub. Set in the heart of the spectacularly located, ancient village of Champagny L'Haut, it has picturesque views up the valley and as far as the eyes can see. It is truly magical when you see Bouquetin and Chamois foraging in the snow in font of the chalet!
The chalet faces south east, with fabulous views from the living areas and the 3 front bedrooms, each with private balconies. The 7 main bedrooms have their own beautiful en-suite shower rooms or bathroom, all with private WC's. One of the double bedrooms has an internal door connecting it to a bunk room, making an ideal family room. There is also a ninth sleeping area in a small attic room above the second living room. The chalet sleeps a comfy 14 adults but you can fit in a total of 18 if you use the bunk room and attic rooms.
The chalet has been owned by the same local family for several generations and has been sensitively and beautifully renovated, using local materials and traditional building methods.
The chalet is situated in the village of Champagny Le Haut, an ancient farming village that seems to have stopped in time. There are still small farms producing local cheeses and cows kept under farmhouse sitting rooms!! You will often see Bouquetin and Chamois in front of the chalet as the wild life comes down off the mountains in search of grazing, particularly in the spring. Despite the chalet's tranquil setting, you are still only a short walk from the good local bar restaurant, so you have the beauty of both worlds.
The cross country piste passes very close to the chalet, so perfect if you like this form of exercise and is just a 5 minute drive from the alpine pistes in Champagny, just down the valley, which links you into the vast ski area of La Plagne and Paradiski. There is also a regular ski shuttle bus that departs / drops off just 200m from the chalet, linking you to the main gondola lift in Champagny en Vanoise.
The neighbouring village of Champagny en Vanoise offers a good selection of bars and restaurants which you can enjoy and also 2 well stocked supermarkets and a boulangerie that will deliver bead and croissants to your chalet each morning. The village has a lively atmosphere at night, Le Timbale & Le Pichouan are the main focal points for socialising and even a bit of dancing if the mood takes you!
The skiing & boarding linked in from Champagny is fantastic. A gondola cable-car whisks skiers to the Champagny ski area (1800m) in just 7 minutes which is where you’ll find the gentle nursery slopes. From here you also have three brilliant long blue runs, that are great to learn on and progress to while advanced skiers can zip on to the superb off piste either side. You have a choice of two red runs to take you back to the village at the end of the day, one of them snow cannoned meaning you vcan usually ski back to the village well into April. Champagny offers direct access into La Plagne, but is less busy, so is much quieter and more pleasant, especially during peak weeks.
The Paradiski Area includes both La Plagne and Les Arcs, the two linked together by the biggest cable car in the world, the huge 'Vanoise Express Telecabine'. The whole ski area covers a massive 425km of finely groomed pistes in one of the biggest interlinked ski areas in Europe. With over 180 blue and red runs to cruise down, most skiers and boarders can travel vast distances around the 16 villages. Some very long black runs descend both the Bellecote Glacier (3250m) and the Aiguille Rouge (3225m) both on and off piste. There are also several, into the pretty tree lined runs descending into Vallandry , Plan Peissey and Montchavin. There are also numerous mogul fields in the area and 2 board parks, half pipes and boarder cross runs. You will find something for everyone
