The Coach House is a unique detached former Coach House, set within the grounds of our home at The Old Vicarage. Surrounded by open fields, woodland, with fabulous views to the Marlborough Downs, perfect for long walks and total relaxation. The huge living space (30ft x 16ft), with kitchen area at one end, wood burning stove at the other; comfy sofas and chairs to relax in, table and chairs for dining. An enormous glass window replaces the original entrance allowing the sun to flood the room with light and enhance the view of the original cobbled court yard. Downstairs there is also a study room with single French day bed; separate loo & stone sink. The huge Master bedroom with Superking size double bed, en-suite bathroom and French windows opening onto balcony. Large twin bedroom with en-suite shower/wet room also with balcony. Lie in bed, watch the sunrise and in the evening, the moon appear over the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.
The property is ideally situated near the Georgian City of Bath with all it's stunning architecture, history, wonderful shops and restaurants including the famous Polly Lunn Tea Rooms, one of the oldest buildings in Bath. The National Trust Village of Lacock is a ten minute drive where you can visit the Fox Talbot Photography Museum and the Abbey where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed. Lacock was also the location for films including Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and the ever popular television series Downton Abbey to name but a few. The George Inn dates back to 1361 and has a wonderful open log fire as does the Red Lion. The ancient English Heritage Sites of Stonehenge and Avebury are within striking distance and not to be missed. Our local market town of Devizes is home to the Caen Hill flight of canal locks, the longest in the country as well as a beautiful market square which hosts a weekly market and monthly Farmers Market as well as some unique pubs and shops.
Bowood House, set in gardens designed by Capability Brown, with its' International Golf Course and renowned children's Adventure play ground is only a few minutes drive and the medieval Great Chalfield Manor and gardens another delight. While staying at The Coach House, guests can enjoy use of the tennis court, relax by the outdoor pool set within it's own walled garden, and make use of the BBQ and outdoor eating area. We apply a holistic and, what we consider to be an environmentally friendly approach to the property and grounds.
