There are many special things about Aguasalá, but there are two that stand out for me: looking at the view and knowing that (during many periods of the year) you may have the beach below just to yourself; and that most of the cliff you are looking at forms part of your garden. It’s not easy to find places like this on the Costa de la Luz! But it’s not just the sea view, direct beach access, and cliff-top garden, Aguasalá pretty much ticks every box on the perfect beach house wish list: infinity pool, roof-top chill-out, bedrooms with sea views, open-plan living space, cool decor, …it has it all!
Built perpendicular to the coast and nestling into the gentle gradient of the cliffs, the first floor includes one of the two front doors, all but one of the bedrooms, and the roof terrace; while the ground floor contains the second entrance, which gives access to the open-plan living area and kitchen that open onto the garden terraces and pool area. The large living area (150m2) is divided into a sitting area, TV area, dining area, and kitchen. The decoration is very much Atlantic-beach house: predominantly blue and white paintwork, comfy white sofas, esparto rugs, wicker sofas for the TV area, beautiful pieces of waxed woodwork carved from single trunks, and splashes of colour from carefully chosen ceramics. The eye for detail is apparent throughout, each bedroom and bathroom offering something different but always following the same theme and with individual hand-crafted pieces.
There are 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms (4 en suite). The master suite has lovely sea views and direct access onto the roof terrace. Bedroom 2 has similar views but without the direct terrace access. And the other three first floor bedrooms have garden views (2 with a glimpse of the sea) through full-length windows. The roof terrace is perfect in winter and for summer evenings, and the ground floor terrace is better suited for the hot weather as there is a large awning for shade. The outdoor eating area also has optional shade from a giant parasol.
The landscaped garden is beautifully kept. Succulents prevail in carefully crafted beds down both sides, in the courtyards, and on the roof terrace; beautifully designed spaces for low water consumption and clifftop conditions. The wooden path at the end of the garden gives way to a set of gently sloping steps that lead to the gate onto the beach and also a longer path that takes you around the semi-wild cliff top garden that the property shares with its two neighbours. This area is packed with local vegetation (much of it protected), including junipers, mini-palms, lentisk, iris, and orchids.
It is about 1km to the local shop, pharmacy, a couple of bars and restaurants, and childrens’ playground. Roche also has its own tennis and padel courts and five-a-side football pitches. In the summer months, there are several beach bars/restaurants to choose from within walking distance, some of which are now staying open all year. A 5-10 minute drive will provide you with a far larger selection of both bars and restaurants. The area offers an endless list of activities, information on which you will find here on our website and on our Facebook page. And if you book with us, we provide you with detailed information on all our recommendations, details on local amenities, and our up-to-date guide to the best of everything! You could spend a wonderful holiday here without a car, and just hire bikes; but, assuming you will have a car, it’s 15 minutes to Conil, 20 minutes to the hill-top village of Vejer-de-la-Frontera, 30 minutes to Cadiz, 40 minutes to Tarifa and Jerez, and 90 minutes to Seville, all of which are well worth visiting.
