We are so glad we chose this location for our first trip to Wyoming and Yellowstone (June 2021). We were two families of four who hadn't seen each other in a few years. The Backcountry Base Camp was everything that the VRBO description says AND MORE. In addition to what you read in the description, there are also large, wide porches surrounding three sides of the house, the hottub is larger than it appears in the photo, the beds are super comfortable, everything is new and clean, we had every supply and appliance we could imagine, we had a large fire pit all to ourselves, and the various living spaces WERE connected (something I wondered about before I arrived) yet were self-contained enough for privacy. The owner and manager lives on site and gave us many helpful suggestions, but only if we asked -- he left us alone and we hardly knew he was around. Besides the house itself, we were ultra pleased that we selected this location as opposed to numerous other possibilities near different entrances of Yellowstone. We were literally 7-10 minutes from the NE entrance to Yellowstone which puts you into the Lamar Valley where all the wildlife is. A benefit to this entrance is that many other entrances, such as the one nearest Old Faithful, were full of traffic at all times. We experienced limited traffic in a year that goes down as one of the busiest in the Yellowstone area, North, South, East, and West. We also loved the town of Cooke City - very quaint, quiet, friendly, artistic, great food and lots of variety of restaurants for a small town, and I was excited to learn that Ernest Hemingway lived in Cooke County for 5 years as a writer and based some of his stories on his experiences in the town and the NE area of Yellowstone. Highly recommended!!
