Cleanliness is the most important part of any review on a property for us. We can overlook amenities, and make due with things like that, but living with someone else’s filth is unacceptable. We are frequent renters of VRBO’s, and have had mostly great experiences. This property was not one of those great experiences. It started with the check-in process. Now I get owners being cautious, but this one is over the top. No code was sent, and as I was having issues with logging into the app.. to be able to communicate as we normally do with owner, and opted to try to call the owner, or text her… she scolded me for not using the app… and refused to communicate with me by any other means. After a long day and long trip with a little, and just wanting to get into our unit to feed that hunangry little and ourselves and rest, this was not very welcoming.
Then we get inside to find that some of the dishes had debris on them, cupboards and drawers were dirty and had crumbs and other debris in them. Dishes were chipped and not plentiful enough to accommodate the ratio of guests that this owner claims the unit can accommodate. The coffee maker was dirty with a layer of adhered great dust. The toaster had a very burnt side, and was filthy. I tried cleaning it, but it was beyond clean. Dish soap was almost non-existent, but we had just enough for one sink full of washing, and purchased (and left behind for future guests) more to wash dishes and do other cleaning throughout our stay.
The couch hasn’t seen cleaning in a long time, as there was enough food in it to feed critters for a week or more.
Walls, baseboards, doors, cabinets were definitely in need of a good cleaning also. We did our best to just ignore all this, but honestly… as an owner of a cleaning company that cleans for Air B&B and VRBO owners, in the city we live in, I know the standards these should be maintained at… and can honestly tell you, this one was not… and I was quite grossed out for our entire stay also. I did not mention it to the owner until our last day, when I was finally able to access the VRBO app mail properly… and received no response. I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt that this was due to theirs maybe not working also, since I was having trouble reaching them through it? Regardless, not something I would have wanted guests staying in, if it were my home.
Towels were laundered, but some were stained and had someone else’s hair on it. We laundered.
