Welcome to Ellangowan Equine Retreat, your tiny house NSW getaway, where the serenity of nature surrounds you. Take in the view of our horses grazing peacefully nearby and discover the beautiful walking trails in the breathtaking Bungawalbin National Park. Ruby, our friendly kelpie x blue heeler, will welcome you at the entrance.
If you’re feeling chilly, we’ll provide kindling and firewood to create a cozy atmosphere in your relaxing outdoor sitting area.
The Space:
Ellangowan Equine Retreat by Tiny Away is located in the peaceful wilderness of Ellangowan, just an hour’s drive from Grafton. For a coastal adventure, Evans Head offers beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes, and a laid-back vibe. It’s popular for swimming, and surfing, and features the Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome and nearby Bundjalung National Park for bushwalking and wildlife watching.
A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home overlooking our five-star equine facility and horse paddocks. It features easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette with cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, a hand basin, and a gas-heated shower.
If you plan to spend your tiny house NSW getaway here, we advise that you bring your basic necessities, such as food and water during your stay with us. Thank you.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny house and their private courtyard with a fire pit and outdoor seating. The booking fee includes one tub of firewood with kindling and a lighter. Additional tubs can be purchased for $15 each.
NOTICE TO ALL: We kindly request that you refrain from entering our horse paddocks or equine facilities without the consent and presence of our host. Although our horses are friendly, they are large animals that need to be treated with care and respect.
NOTE: Horsemanship clinics happening on the first Saturday of each month commencing on the 1st February. Guest are welcome to come and watch the activity if they like but we will require them to adhere to the safety rules and regulations. The horsemanship clinics are about 6 riders that will arrive with their floats and own horses to start riding at about 8-8.30 am and will be finished by 11.30am.
If you wish to interact with them, please do so under the guidance of our experienced host.

- Evans Head Memorial Aerodrome is a historical site showcasing Australia’s aviation legacy, with a museum focused on WWII aviation.
- Bundjalung National Park is a diverse park featuring coastal heath and wetlands, ideal for hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying pristine beaches.
Getting Around:
By car:
- Approximately 2-2.5 hour drive from the Gold Coast to Ellangowan Equine Retreat.
- Reachable by 2wd, some dirt roads close to Ellangowan Equine Retreat.
By public transport:
- No public transport available. Private car is most suitable. It’s only a short half hour drive to get to either
Casino, Woodburn or Coraki. Grafton and Lismore are approximately 45 mins away.
Other Things to Note:
- Gas BBQ Grill is available
- No uninvited guests or visitors allowed
- Mobile phone reception has a weak signal
- Smoking will be off-site/off-property only, please.
- We ask guests to dispose of cigarette butts properly
- As an added note, please do not leave cigarette butts around dry times
- We also ask guests to respect our local animals and peaceful neighborhood
- Water supplied at the tap is drinkable- tank water will be hooked up to the tiny home
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
- Remember to take all your rubbish with you when you leave, as we do not have rubbish collection on the property. Thank you!
Pre-orders
- We provide kindling and firewood by prior notice. Additional tubs can be purchased for $15 each
- We have friendly horses who would love a pat! If you'd like to feed them, please inform our welcoming host. We provide the horses' food, as our horses are on a strict diet to ensure their health and well-being. Enjoy your stay!
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the [compost/cassette] toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
