A step back in time with all the modern amenities you are accustomed to. Fabulous sunset views out to Barren Island and the open waters of the Chesapeake bay. Crabbing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating right from your private dock. Relax on the Adirondacks on the dock or at the fire pit. Walk to Old Salty's for fine dining and entertainment at the outdoor tiki bar.
The Old Bank is a perfect vacation home for one couple or three. The original bank structure was modified for residential living with two bedrooms, a bath, living room and a small kitchen in the bank vault. A second residence was later added to the waterfront side with an open kitchen, living and dining space, as well as a bedroom and bath.
The spaces are now combined but retain a distinct separation with the vault as a pass through. One couple can enjoy the waterfront section while another couple, or two (or the kids) enjoys the bank and its beautiful views of the marsh and out to back creek. Each side offers private bath and living space.
The rooftop deck is spacious. The yard is open and offers unimpeded views of Tar Bay, out to Barren Island and the open Chesapeake. You'll watch passing ships, working crab and oyster boats and the sunsets are nothing short of spectacular.
Hoopers Island is one of the last working "waterman's" islands remaining. Purchase seafood right from the local watermen or haul in your own from your private dock. Of course, you can just walk down the road a few houses to Old Salty's and let them do the work for you while enjoying your favorite adult beverage at the tiki bar.
Bring your bicycles! Hoppers Island and the Blackwater National Refuge at large is one of the very best road biking areas anywhere. Pedal north for breakfast and supplies at the general store, or pedal south all the way to the end of Middle Hoopers and enjoy sweeping views of the Honga River to the east and the open Chesapeake to the west.
Bring your kayaks! Launch right from the property and enjoy a leisurely, or vigorous, paddle out to Barren Island, North to Fishing Creek and the sandbars, South to the pass between Upper and Middle Hoopers and into the Honga. Continue for a loop around the Island or cut into back creek and take out just down the road a cross the road from Old Salty's. Paddle up to the head of the Honga and get lost in the maze of marsh channels throughout the Blackwater.
Bring your fishing and crabbing gear and enjoy world class action right from the dock or bring your boat and chase that action farther from shore. There are free boat launches at Fishing Creek and Hooperville. Our dock is set up to accommodate two or more boats safely with hold off piers (posts).
Bring your stress, your troubles, your utter exhaustion and watch them all roll away with the ebbing tide. Hoopers Island is Heaven. The Old Bank is our little slice. It can be yours too. Please note: There are two outdoor cameras located on the garage. There is also a doorbell camera.
