This is a very pretty house. It has great views, tons of space, and was decorated for the holidays. Overall we enjoyed our stay!
There are a few things I wish I had known about the house before coming- not really complaints, but things that you can’t tell from the VRBO listing and if we had known we would have planned differently and brought other things with us:
- The bunk beds you see in one of the photos aren’t in the house anymore. We had planned for kids to sleep there so we had to rearrange sleeping arrangements and we had to go purchase an air mattress for one of the kids. Wish we had known the bunk beds weren’t a real thing so we could have planned accordingly.
- This house is unique in the sense that the three floors are completely separated from each other. There are no indoor stairs, but there is an elevator. All stairs are outdoor stairs. This is fine if you’re traveling with other couples or older kids, but we were traveling with little kids and it made it really hard at bedtime and nap time that parents couldn’t hear their kids on other floors. Not necessarily a complaint, but something I wish we had known ahead of time.
-Cons:
- There was a big ant problem. Ants were on every floor everywhere. They got into all of our suitcases and were just everywhere. Very annoying to deal with. They did come spray for it the first day, but with small kids we then had to keep them away from all sprayed areas. Second day there were thousands of ants in the kitchen that forced us to throw out the majority of our groceries. We were told by management it’s “just that time of year”. So after spending $100 on cleaning supplies, ant spray, and ant bait plus throwing out $200 of dollars in groceries we aren’t too pleased. By the third night, there were ants in the rooms and the beds. It was a mess and the management basically told us “too bad”. They quit replying to us about the problem and we had to deal with it ourselves.
- The rooms on the second floor- the lights button wouldn’t work, which resulted in being able to dim the overhead lights but you couldn’t turn them all the way off. Very annoying to basically sleep with the lights on!
- The refrigerator was not very cold. On second day we had to throw out two packs of meat that had gone bad because the fridge wouldn’t stay cold enough. Check the fridge before buying groceries.
Overall this is a pretty house in the middle of Gadsden, but had a lot of annoying things to deal with.
