Mountain Top View Spacious Family Cottage Walking Distance from Appalachian Trl

Enjoy beautiful views of the entire Shenandoah valley while relaxing at the Mountain Top Family Cottage. Enjoy great Fall colors. Only a 10 minute 1/2 mile walk to the Appalachian Trail, where you can hike to historic Harpers Ferry. The cottage features a large living, dining and kitchen area. A large wood stove is available as an optional cozy heat source. The cottage has central heating and air conditioning, as well. The master bedroom and the mountain view study provide beautiful Shenandoah valley views. Drive to the many historic and recreation areas near Harpers Ferry WV.
A drinking water filter is installed on the kitchen faucet for your convenience.
During snowy or icy weather, a four-wheel drive vehicle is necessary to access the cottage.

The dining area seats six plus. There is a drinking water filter on the kitchen faucet. A large wood stove is available as an optional cozy heat source. Wood to use in the wood stove is provided at no extra charge.

Living room: Large sofa with two reclining chairs built in. 65 inch HiSense Roku TV. Separate recliner and chairs for reading. Wood stove for cold weather use.

Master bedroom room 1: One euro style queen bed (has an extra layer on top) and one firm twin bed in the main bedroom, with a sliding glass door with a beautiful mountain view.

Master bedroom room 2: One firm twin bed. The room has a separator curtain. Large walk in closet with plenty of hanging space and shelves.

Bedroom two. One firm full bed and two firm twin beds. Ceiling fan.

Kitchen: Large kitchen with traditional oven and range, toaster, basket coffee maker, electric kettle microwave and blender.

Dining room:
Large dining table with six chairs.

Bathroom: Tub and shower with energy and water saving shower head. Hair dryer. Suction attachment type shower grab bar available.

Entry room/ office:
Small desk with a desk lamp. Glass sliding door with a beautiful mountain view. 42 Gps high seed internet.

Laundry room:
LG washer. Kenmore series 80 heavy duty electric dryer. Long hanging rod for clothes. Ironing board and iron.

Deck: Glass porch table and four porch chairs. Large umbrella for the center of the table.

Great place, as described
Place was as described, worked great for me. House has good amenities, incl good wi-fi. No bugs seen (I expect to see a few in older places a bit out in the woods). Yard was clean and clear, serious fire pit available, and view was great, just as advertised. Things that might make this place not for everyone. - Last few streets are gravel and bumpy, my tires slipped a bit going up the hills, so a bit of an adventure the first time up and down, but I never felt anxious. - Neighborhood might be called ugly by some. I cdn't decide if it was ugly or beautiful, but liked it. It has mix of tidy small houses with clean well-lit outdoor areas (like this listing), and broken down houses surrounded by overgrown grasses and bushes, and complete disaster area junk yards that seem unlivable yet a dog barks from within one of the 3 scattered 1970's campers. So some people will love this for the stories latent behind each property's unique version of a no trespassing sign, others will like it as an escape from the bland texture of so many suburban developments. But others might, even with no snobbiness, just think it's ugly.

Loved the house!
The house is very clean, spacious, and comfortable--very well-stocked with everything you need. It's quiet and peaceful all around, and the view from the back is stunning! It's very close by foot to the Appalachian Trail, and a short drive to Harper's Ferry National Park. The only issue we had was with the general area; immediately around the house was fine, but walking up and down the road was unpleasant. It was also very difficult for us to drive in and out without scratching the bottom of our car on the gravel road; don't go there in a standard sedan, as you'll need a somewhat higher car. But overall we really enjoyed our stay, thank you!

Almost worth the view...
We travel A LOT and this is one of the cleanest rentals we have stayed in. Check in was unusual the owner met to give us the key. This was unsettling as we were three women traveling alone in a strange place. There is a lock box on the door so I am unsure why it was necessary to personally hand over the key. Sadly there is a lack of transparency that needs to be addressed. Per the listing there are "old" vehicles in neighboring yards, that is akin to putting lipstick on a pig. You basically take an ATV trail through a junk yard up a mountain. I would NEVER attempt to take a car up the road. Its unfair of the owner to assume everyone would be safe doing so. I understand they are used to roads like this but someone who isn't familiar with navigating a "gravel road" with giant ruts gullies and hairpin turns would struggle to make the trek up safely. I drove an SUV up and it was rough. It was apparent the owner wants you to come in a certain way because it takes you by less alarming properties. GPS is a more direct route but it's STEEP! You are never more than 50yds from an ancient abandoned camper with no doors or windows that someone actually lives in. Not to mention the 100s of sick looking feral cats or emaciated dogs tethered to the campers. The surrounding properties are visually disturbing and somewhat terrifying but the house across the road is newer. I understand that some are things the owner has no control over, however do your due diligence and read the reviews.

Everything was great! Awesome location and gorgeous views! The only thing i could complain about was the map to get there. I would just make it clear that there are 2 entrances to the neighborhood, Oak Road that was on the map and the other way the GPS says to go. We figured it out though and it was great after that, much better roads. I would definitely recommend!

Home was very comfortable and 15 minutes from walmart. The views were very nice and the firepit was good too. Owner was friendly. There is a gravel road up so follow the directions. Definitely would recommend.

We drove from Texas to this beautiful place to spend some time with our son. We met Richard and Stacy at the cottage. Very lovely couple. Enjoyed time with our son there. We also visited Antietam National Battlefield abs some other nearby sites. The place was very comfortable and spacious. Surroundings were quiet. The only concern are the roads leading up to the cabin. The view makes it truly worthwhile driving up there. Highly recommend for anyone that needs a break from the DC and surrounding suburbs to reset. We definitely would be back if we lived closer.

On top of the world!
This was a cousins girls trip. The ride in was slightly challenging as it was a rocky uphill road but, we made it! Once there we enjoyed the view and the furnishings. Everything was as described and fit our needs perfectly.

Great spot for a Mountain Retreat
Title says it well. Owner was responsive and communicative. The house was in great shape, a great neighborhood for a mountain get away. Felt remote without actually being far from things. The view of Jefferson County stretching out below is truly majestic. Would definitely visit again!

Family Time
We stayed at this cottage to be close to our children and grandchildren’s cabin as we wanted our quite time to rest up before spending the days with family at their cabin. The family hiked the Appalachian trail to this cottage and we fed them when they arrived and drove them back to their cabin. The quietness, cleanliness and accommodations were very pleasant. If you plan to cook, you may want to bring any special equipment you need since the kitchen is minimally equipped. I was mostly prepared for the just in case scenario and brought a few must haves with me. The biggest drawback for us was, (like many of the other reviews mentioned). The condition of the dirt road to get to the cottage was very difficult to drive. My husband has a 4 wheel drive truck and we did not look forward to our daily trips down and back up the steep rugged terrain. If you need a place to escape and are looking for a comfortable, clean, quite place and plan on staying put for duration of your stay I think this place is a great choice and very affordable! I should mention you may want to brace yourself for some very disturbing views along the way up and down the road. It’s very sad that people let their places go the way many of the neighbors have. I can assure you though…. If you can look past the mess along the way…. You will be pleased once you reach the “rose among the thorns”. Truly a little hidden gem. A great place to rest and relax!

Valley view from mountain cottage close to Harper’s Ferry
This place was clean and had what we needed for a few nights stay to explore nearby areas. It has a nice view of the valley from a bedroom and a small office and front deck area. There are dwellings nearby, across from where you park. Also some of the homes/dwellings on the road to this cottage are not very kept up with so that might be off putting to some. However our stay was fine, a place to sleep, shower, cook meals, and cuddle up and watch tv.

Hiking trip
This was a great place to stay. The accommodations were as listed. We didn't need anything. There are comments about other properties in area, and yeah some are a mess, but we weren't staying there so, so what. The road wasn't as bad as other comments made it seem. The host was super nice. We loved all the deer. If we are in the area again, we would defiantly stay here again.
