I was at this Hotel for a seminar. It seems to be what keeps this Hotel in business through the winter. Check out is at 11am, common time. But check in is at 4pm. To me, this is a bit late. I usually come across 2, or 3pm as a common time. During the seminar lunch break, 1pm I tried to check in early. The clerk at check in said if I wanted to check in early, there would be a $40 fee! Now I understand if a room wasn't ready, you wait a few minutes 15-20... But that was not the case. There were rooms ready but only to the "highest bidder". Now that's a scam! I don't understand how this is an inconvenience to the hotel. If a room is ready put someone in it. I was here on business and had traveled 3hrs. that morning for a 7:30am start time. I just wanted to check in. This is a service industry. Make me happy and I'll come back.
This negative interaction at check in actually tainted my view of my entire experience... Things I would have overlooked:
The rooms need an update. Not just the decor, but the lamp switches are all shot. They twist and twirl between your fingers shutting on and off until you get it. The Heating unit is LOUD, it shook and rattled. It also stunk for a while when I turned it up. The dials on the heater were also worthless. It took some trial and error to get it right. One of the beds was concave. We didn't need it so no biggie. The other mattress was fine. I actually liked the pillows. No neck ache.
