"Better Days" Inn / Comfortable 3br 1 Ba / Pet and Kid Friendly / Near Downtown

Large spacious house with cozy (small) living room with electric fireplace, and roku tv (no cable), Master bedroom has 50" tv and queen size bed, 2nd bedroom has queen size bed and small tv, Office/Bedroom has twin size trundle bed that pulls out to 2 twins - has a small tv and a b/w laser printer. Wrap around porch with propane grill and gas fire bowl - outdoor dining and lounge chairs. Back yard is adjacent to a busy road - but is completely fenced.

Walking distance to downtown (about 15 minutes), and to Hollar Mills (the resturaunt at the brewery is GREAT). House is also close to the SALT block, hospitals, and the stadium. We are about 1 hour from Charlotte, or from Boone/Blowing Rock. Lots of Gem Mines nearby. About 1.25 Hours from Asheville.

Coffee/Sweetener is provided. There is an electric kettle - a coffee grinder - and a french press (very simple to use - instructions are next to the coffee area - and it makes the BEST coffee). Kitchen is stocked for cooking, and there is a lot of dining space. We are pet friendly - but need prior approval. The neighbors are close - so please keep the noise to a minimum so as not to disturb them. (No parties are allowed/guests are ok
- max 15 people).

Pets are welcome (with PRE-APPROVAL). If there are additional cleaning fees (usually $20) for excess hair or waste pickup - they will be billed after checkout. There are dog toys, a large crate, and treats for the fur-babies. Large fenced in back yard, and the gates on the front porch close off to keep kids/pets safe.

My grandsons are 2, 4 and 5 - and there are some toys there. The back bedroom has a projector on the ceiling with color-changing nebulas and stars (for the kid in all of us). There are some board games, puzzles and coloring books (for kids and adults) in the armoire in the living room as well. A pack and play (with sheets and blankets) is available.

You are welcome to smoke on the front or back porch, there are ashtrays in the bottom drawer to the left of the stove. Please do not leave cigarette butts around the property. Smoking inside the house (be careful if the windows are open) will result in a $500 fine. Any illegal substances, parties, or noise complaints will result in additional fines or you will be asked to vacate the premises immediately.

Front door has a smart lock - you'll be issued a code for the door and the alarm system prior to check in. Each guest has a unique code. Home has a security system with outdoor security cameras on all 3 doors. 2-3 cars will fit in the driveway - or you can park on the street. There is a ramp to get up to the porch, front door is 36", all interior doors are 30". Bathroom has grab bars that fold up and down if necessary. If you require a shower bench - please bring one.

** EXTERIOR PEST CONTROL **
Monthly pest control - they will perform exterior service only - and do not need access to the house. (Interior service is performed when house is vacant). If there are problems with pests at all - please let us know, and we will send them back over promptly to spray the interior. No refunds for bugs will be given as we have taken precautions to prevent pests - but service will be provided when requested.

** LAWN SERVICE **
Lawn service is provided when they are able to mow the yard - they do not have access to the house.

I could live here!
You can scroll down and see my other comments since I've been staying at Better Days Inn for months. I had a fire at my home and grateful I found this house. Cozy, comfortable, everything you need is there, close to great restaurants, stores, and entertainment. I stayed in the "queen" room and even ordered the same mattress and pillows for when I return to my home. And yes, my daughter said she would like to live there! I spent a lot of time on the wonderful wrap around porch and never in my 67 tears of life have I ever seen a chipmunk until my stay at Better Days. In the mornings while I would be sipping my coffee, there was one chipmunk that would come out on the side ledge of the front porch and I would sing to it. Believe it or not, I heard him say his name was Alvin. So if you have the opportunity to stay at Better Days, please tell him Pam says Hi!

Couldn't Ask For More!
Great house! Has everything needed for a pleasing stay. Super cool decorating and very comfortable furnishings. All is clean and fresh. Everywhere you look there's something beautiful. Handicapped accessible for me and our elderly dog with an outside entry ramp for us both and bathroom toilet and shower fixtures for me. Love the huge wrap around gated porch. Wonderful happy stay!

Character and Charm Await, from the house and the Hostess
Overall, our experience at "Better Days Inn" in Hickory, NC was positive. Meri was wonderful to deal with and did her absolute best to accommodate our requests or needs. We could not have asked for better. The house served our purposes well, even when we had the family over to celebrate our granddaughter's graduation (14 people total). The closeness to Hwy. 127 made for extra road noise (which Meri warned us about) but did not cause us any real issues. The location is close to many amenities and an abundance of restaurant choices. The house is still in the midst of some remodeling, with some paint work, etc. still to be done, but this simply added to its charm and was not a problem at all.

Delightful!
So fortunate to have found this house. I had a fire at my home and am waiting on repairs. Upon entering "Better Days", I felt welcome! It's cheerful and there's something interesting almost everywhere you look. Very clean and smelled fresh. Loved all the ceiling fans. I could go on and on about all the thoughtful pleasantries. I spent a lot of time on the porch and have never seen so many kinds of birds and 6 cardinals at one time. Also there are a few semi hidden surprises outside. Very peaceful. I highly recommend Better Days to folks of all ages! (I need to have a hip replacement and currently dependent on my daughter for help so I hope she emptied the fridge and cleaned any messes properly!) Thanks to the owner!

Feel Right At Home
We were in Hickory NC to attend an event at Lenoir-Rhyne U and extended our stay to explore a bit of the area. The rental location and accommodations did not disappoint and Merianne was quick to respond to my messages. Hands-down, our favorite part of the house was the spacious porch and comfy beds, but honestly the house and neighborhood are as described by the owner! Downtown Hickory is small, but bustling with several restaurants, breweries, and small shops. We were also within an easy drive to antique shops, wineries, and Baker’s Mountain Park, if hiking is your thing.

Enjoyed our stay. Very clean, comfortable beds. So nice having a fenced in yard, also enjoyed the ability to fence off the front porch so our 2 dogs could hang out with us. Several restaurants, a record store, and a coffee/tea shop within walking distance. If I had to suggest anything, I would add either a Keurig or coffee pot to the French press option. We didn’t have any issue using the press, but it does take extra time to steep and clean afterwards. Would book again.

Lots of potential
This property has lots of potential. It’s in a great location between the college and convention center. The only Negatives would be it is near a somewhat busy street and it had been occupied by someone that smoked. Everything is updated and clean. A real plus is it has a fenced in back yard that my grandkids and dogs enjoyed. We definitely consider staying here again if we are in town.

Older home in the heart of Hickory
The property is close to downtown Hickory, and as such has some road noise. Given the area finding dog friendly is rare. Also home needs a few things for safety and accessibility. The ramp gets very slippery when wet and should only be used when necessary. There were dozens of wasps entering in a bedroom on every occurring basement. This issue was fixed after several days. There is no coffee pot but there is a French press. Microwave oven stove and other appliances are all working. The front door tends to stick and makes enter and exit especially at night a challenge. Overall I would stay there again if I couldn't find any other pet friendly accommodations.

Boho Chic!!
I booked this property to accommodate a visit with family close to my daughter in Hickory. The house is absolutely adorable and spacious. The rooms are huge. It’s very ADA friendly and if you bring a dog (we didn’t) there is a nice fenced back yard. Great communication throughout the booking and stay. If you like to cook at home the kitchen is well appointed with everything you’ll need (even for milkshakes). You won’t be dissatisfied. We will stay again.
