Stayed on the north side for the first time
We usually stay down in old Key West in a Bed and Breakfast. This was a good value. The 5 shuttle to downtown comes with a coupon for a free drink at the bar, which is a fun touch. The return trip is free.There are two VRBO rooms at this resort as far as I'm aware. The other rooms have nice seating areas outside of their doors. The VRBO rooms do not have space for a seating area You do NOT check in at the Gates hotel. You check in next door at 24 North (the two resorts are connected) There is a coffee pot (Keurig) in the room and a mini refrigerator in the room. There is a Starbucks on site at 24 North. Overall, this was a nice stay. The room itself is super cute and clean

Not the greatest...
Inaccurate web description (did not have a microwave), room smelled like urine, and we were charged us for the bus service which we didn't use! They don't offer breakfast, so we ventured next door to the Hilton. No prices listed, so we grabbed a plate, took half a spoonful of scrambled eggs, a few potatoes and two pieces of bacon...charged us $21 each! I was so disappointed. I will never stay here again.

I must say the hotel is nice. I am very unhappy with the deception in the pricing. I was given a total price for 4 nights which I paid. When I got there they charged me a $200 resort fee and $200 deposit for the room. I never would have booked this room under their terms. I also would like to know why the name of this hotel is kept a secret. It's not on the ad.

Our room was on the BACK end of the property, where work was being done. Where the ROOSTERS cocadoodle doo from 3am until 7am. I will NEVER EVER book another VENO✌

Key West
Stay did not start well. Went to check in and was told that due to construction, our room was no longer available and we would need to go next door to a Sister hotel and they would accommodate us there. To our surprise it was a Hilton Garden Inn with clean rooms, excellent amenities, a great staff and a complimentary bottle of champagne. A shuttle runs every 45 minutes to an hour to downtown. There was no prior communication with anyone regarding our reservation but it all turned out above what was expected.

Confusing and Misleading Location
VRBO listing described this property as in the Truman Annex area of Key West, which was not even close (over 4 miles away). We were looking for lodging with walking distance of downtown and were sorely disappointed. Directions took us to the Gates Hotel but when we tried to check in they said they had no reservation for us and sent us next door to the 24 North Hotel. At 24 North, they had to track down our reservation and found our reservation which was in fact at the Gates Hotel. What a mess.

Room cleaned every day nice bar . Restaurant is a chip wagon for the two bars. But a star bucks which was great. We went for breakfast there. Would I go back no would look out for a affordable place with more restaurants and a bit better room.

Resort Fee Rip Off
This place is an old motel that was converted into a VRBO. It has been remodeled and is clean and the property well maintained. The checkin process was hampered by the fact that the front desk just consists of a computer on a stand off the front door. It was unattended when we got there and I had to search the property to find someone to check us in. They hit you with a $50 a day "RESORT FEE" when you check in. Their only "resort" feature is a pool. The water in the pool is not heated and was absolutely frigid. Never saw anyone in the water during our entire stay. The room supposedly had a king sized bed but I'd say it's was more like a prince sized bed. Sure didn't appear to be as large as a full king sized mattress. Food availability is an issue. The Gates doesn't have a restaurant. Their sister hotel next door the 24°North hotel serves food outdoors by their pool. It's a very limited menu. When we were there it was much too windy to eat outdoors by the pool. There is a McD's about a 1/4 of a mile down the road if you get desperate. The Hilton a couple hundred yards down the road serves a small menu in their lobby but they were "not serving" several items on their menu. Including what we wanted of course. The Marriott across from the Hilton does have a full restaurant. But we didn't try it. Plan on eating down in the heart of Key West where there are tons of good restaurants. Blue Heaven being one we'd recommend.
