My wife and I stayed at this property many times before and considered it always as one of our favorite hotels. It is located at a nice and wide beach at a quiet location with a beautiful view. Therefore I regret that this time I have to provide a less positive review. We came back to the Royal Lahaina after approx. 4 years as earlier travel was not possible due to the Covid pandemic. Given that we booked our two nights quite late, the rate was the highest that we have ever paid. Yet, since the rates were high everywhere on Maui, I don't think it would be fair to rate the hotel on that. What we were dissapointed about was the condtion of the room. Clearly this hotel is past it's best years and requires a major makeover. I would have expected to see some improvements after all those years, but the rooms where the same as before. The matress was saggy, the carpet made dirty impresson, the toilette was running, the dust behind the bedside tables seem to be as old as the hotel, the windows had handprints and the furniture on the balcony was dirty. All in all a run down impression. We were happy to have booked only two nights and moved for the rest of our stay to a different hotel. After check out I gave exactly this feedback to the manager and told her that unless the owner spends substantial efforts to remodel the property, it would have been the last time we stayed there. She appreciated our feedback and mentioned that some remodelling will take place soon. We shall see.
