This much-loved family beach cottage, in our family for three generations, is accessed down a private country dirt road to the waters of Great Peconic Bay. The property offers two very different outdoor experiences to enjoy with beautifully planted private gardens in front and rear with ever-changing displays of flowers and a large spectacular beach. The beach is accessed from the rear garden via a curving stone path over the low dune through a natural garden of indigenous grasses, reeds, wild roses and Montauk daisies. Our wide sugar sand private beach is one of the several large private beaches that create this quintessentially scenic curving cove. Even at high tide, there remains a large wide beach for lounging, sunning, games, bonfires, and stargazing. The spectacular sun and moon rises over the expansive bay waters framed by the South Fork and Robins Island are awe inspiring. Two driveways- one on either side of the house- provide ample parking for our guests and their guests. In addition to our private beach, there is another sandy beach at the end of the road for the pleasure of all our private road residents where, should you wish, you can enjoy the company the neighbors.
The enjoyment of these two different outdoor environments is fully supported by 5 lounges, 6 folding beach chairs, two outdoor umbrella dining tables with 15 dining chairs, a fire pit, two new Weber grilles (propane and charcoal) and prep table, and an open-air covered sitting area with couches, chairs and a coffee table. A kayak and cornhole game are provided to enjoy. A large outdoor shower is also on the garden level. As are the full-size washer and dryer, drying lines, and table for folding laundry.
The front stair to the house terminates with a platform large enough to have a bistro table and chairs. It’s a great place to greet the day with a morning coffee, view the activity up and down the road or the ospreys in their next in the creek across the way, or watch the sunsets with a glass of delicious local North Fork wine. Through a unique front door, you’re on the front porch with six large windows on two sides and spectacular views. There’s enough space and comfortable sitting for a group of 6-8 . Our family loves to reconnect here at the end of the day and have drinks and hors d oeuvres before dinner. The sofa is a queen pull out sofa for the unexpected overnight quest.
Through the openings in the porch wall, you can see through the length of Living room to the even better water views beyond to the East and Robbins Island. The sun and moon rises are breathtakingly beautiful. There are two Living Room sitting areas. The first is centered on a large screen TV while the other connects well with the K/DA making for lively conversations with all those helping with food and drink preparations. The sofa here is a double sleeper with a new inflatable air topper (again, to accommodate last minute sleep overs).
The Dining area has a long maple butcher block table that can seat up to 8 people with a side counter for additional serving space and/or drinks preparation. The new GE Profile refrigerator has ice and water on the door- a real bonus in an active beach house.
The kitchen is a true cook’s kitchen with double sinks, DW, microwave/convection oven, gas cooktop, and electric oven is well laid out to maximize counter space, storage and efficiency. It is fully equipped with coffee grinder, coffee maker, toaster, and electric fry pan. The built-in recycling bins are a special feature and super convenient.
The back hall contains the bathroom and rear stairs to the garden/beach level. With a full glass door, it also has an enviable view of the garden, cove beaches and water.
The house has been specially designed to create maximum separation of bedrooms with each bedroom being accessed from a different common space. BR 1 is accessed from the front porch. It is the largest of the three. It has its own view of the water even from the new ‘Purple’ brand queen size bed with night stands on both sides. It also has a built-in wardrobe with hanging space and full height slide out trays for folded items and family antique dresser with mirror. BR 2 is off the K/DA. It has a double size bed, upholstered headboard and night stands on both sides. In addition, there is a built-in wardrobe with drawers, shelves, pull-out trays and hanging space. From the bed you can see the water out through the full glass back door and dining area windows. BR 3 is the middle and smallest of the three and is off the LR. It has a twin size captain’s bed with pullout high riser trundle below. There is a built-in wardrobe with drawers, shelves, pullout trays, and hanging space. From the bed there are views of the bay through the porch windows.
