The space:
Cabin Mori is a charming off-grid property located 5 miles from the Marblemount town center, which means it is not connected to power supplied by an electric company. It is primarily powered by a propane generator or batteries charged by solar. Energy generated by these two sources will allow use of lights, internet (starlink), appliances, etc. Please note that we have limited to no cell service in these parts of the woods, which means you will have to download all the directions and instructions on how to find the place before your arrival - old school style. While we do have Starlink internet, it is slow and with interruptions at only around 150 mbps, so please plan to use it for your basic necessities only as features such as online streaming and video calling will not work.
The cabin is nestled in Cascade River Park, a community which will need to be accessed through a keycard operated gate. This keycard will be provided to guests via a 24/7 accessible lockbox located at a Chevron gas station in the town center on your way to the cabin - detailed check-in instructions can be found under 'Check-in Instructions' upon booking.
Once you arrive at the cabin, you will make your way up a few stone steps to the front porch and enter through with a keypad code into the vaulted ceiling great room. Here you'll find a wood burning stove to cozy up to with some books and games. A large paper lantern hanging above the antique dining table provides a mellow and warm glow under which hearty meals can be enjoyed. The cabin is also equipped with a full gas range and oven, a refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster and electric kettle. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dedicated workspace with chair and counter space.
Down the hallway you'll find two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed and pair of side tables with lamps. One bedroom enjoys a full ensuite bathroom with standing shower, while the second bathroom with tub and hand shower can easily be accessed across the hallway.
The cabin does have central heating along with a wood burning stove for added comfort. Please note that quiet hours are from 10pm to 7am - during this time the generator can not be turned on and the cabin will rely on charged batteries for power. Please be mindful of your consumption during these hours so the batteries don't run out of charge during the night.
The generator will need to be turned on and off manually using the little black and silver remote that looks like a car key. Turn it on for at least 1-2 hours before quiet hours to have enough charge for the night, and on and off in the day as needed when the batteries run out of charge and you lose power, or generally every 3-4 hours for an hour should suffice.
Cabin Mori is our first off-grid venture and a work in progress which we are looking forward to enjoying and improving with time. The cabin provides a true and authentic modern-day experience of living in the woods with limited connectivity and generators roaring in the background, but all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay that encourages slow, mindful living. We hope you will find it as rejuvenating as we do!
Guest access:
Guests will have access to the entire property and its grounds, with the exception of the laundry room and two sheds in the rear of the property which will remain locked.
Other things to note:
While we do have a fire pit area outside the cabin, but please check the park entrance board for burn ban notices as this area is at risk of forest fires, especially in the summer.
There is also a boil water notice in place at the park for drinking water. Feel free to use the electric or stovetop kettles or purchase drinking water for your stay.
Garbage at the park must be disposed of in the main park dumpster - there is no garbage collection service. This will be taken care of by the cleaners at checkout; but if you wish to dispose of any garbage during your stay, please do so at the dumpsters near the gate entry to the park. The key to the dumpsters is located in the credenza by the back door. Please return the key after use.
Please do not leave any garbage outside as wildlife does frequent the area and we do not provide any bear proof bins at this time.
