Reputation matters in Haida Gwaii’s Masset, as in other small towns, and we saw immediately why our host, Patrick and his wife, are held in high esteem. Patrick’s communication was impeccable, considerate and kind from the moment we made the VRBO booking until after we returned safely to Vancouver on a stormy day. He is an artist, woodworker, potter and more.
Patrick’s Nuu (octopus) House is a work of art that is as comfortable as it is beautiful. We three friends had plenty of room for privacy and connection during our eight day “pilgrimage” to return a dear one’s ashes to places he had loved. In the process, we were able to connect with the amazing landscapes, seascapes and cultures of this unique locale.
The excellent kitchen supported us to cook halibut, lingcod, and four kinds of mushrooms for meals to share with new friends, including a seaweed expert and two Haida carvers completing a ceremonial pole nearby.
The stars, the rainstorms, the constantly changing views across Masset Inlet, all were memorable. We are recommending Nuu House to friends and family after our exquisite experience!
