Schambra House is a renovated 1935 home in a well-established family-friendly neighborhood. Designed by Lewis Stevens who studied under America's most significant architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1934, Wright passed his craft onto Lewis Everett Stevens at the Taliesin Fellowship. In the year following the training, Mr. Stevens created this house for the Schambra family. Stevens left us an architectural gift, and we have renovated it to share with you. Welcome, to Schambra House. Superb architecture has a way of communicating with you at an emotional level as you move from room to room. You will find Schambra House to be a space inviting you to experience your emotional journey. Midland is a town filled with many Mid-Century Modern delights. Many were created by Alden B. Dow, a cohort of Lewis Stevens at the Taliesin Fellowship. To our knowledge, Schambra House is the only Midland property, inspired by Wright’s apprenticeship, available for short-term stays. Now, truly experience a home the way that Wright and all his apprentices intended you to; live in it for a time. We invite you to make Schambra House, Your House. The house is within a 10-minute drive of most of Midland’s activities including the Dow Diamond (Great Lakes Loons Baseball). It is a mere 0.3-mile walk from Dow Gardens, The Canopy Walk, and the Midland Center for the Arts. It is close to the Dow Headquarters and MyMichigan Hospital if you are in town for work. You are only 15 minutes from MBS Airport and within a 20-mile radius of Central Michigan University, Northwood University, and Saginaw Valley State University. Soaring Eagle Casino is a short 30-minute drive away. Functionally experience art and nature, through the house designed by a talented architect. The private spaces in this house have been designed to help you unwind. Two bedrooms have queen-size beds and a shared bathroom. One of these rooms also has a desk and chair. The lower bedroom has a king-size bed with a bathroom adjacent to its door. The two bathrooms are stocked with basic amenities. There is a dedicated office space large enough for two people with inviting windows to the backyard and two monitors. There is high-speed internet throughout the house. Also, check out the unique Kid Nook for the younger at heart. Bring family and friends to enjoy indoor and outdoor games together. The rec room includes a Crokinole board and dart board that will help you reconnect with family and friends and perhaps go home with bragging rights. Enjoy corn-hole, Giant Connect Four, Tipsy Toss game, and more for outdoor fun with games accessible from the back of the garage (the front is reserved for owner storage). A cruiser bike is also available for your use during your stay. Or you may choose to simply relax in the enclosed backyard by sitting on the deck beside the tranquil koi pond watching our family fish. Names of the fish are provided to guests so you can get to know them better. 😊 Schambra House is situated toward the end of a quiet cul-de-sac steps away from a small neighborhood park. It is an intimate neighborhood, but the home’s architecture creates a private experience. A kitchen with custom-built cabinets and shelving appropriate to the home’s architectural period will invite you to cook a quick meal or family sit-down dinner. Enjoy a meal at the dining room table that seats eight comfortably or at the outdoor dining space on the patio. There is a pantry, full-size appliances, and all the accessories needed. Enjoy coffee at the personally crafted bar made from black walnut wood milled from the owner’s family homestead. Please note that Schambra House has several levels to explore with many stairs. Although sturdy handrails (also handmade from the family’s black walnut wood) are provided, some people with limited mobility may have difficulty accessing all levels of this historic home. Experience a home built in 1935 for the needs of the Schambra family but restored and reimagined for yours in 2024. Keyless entry, you will be sent the code via the Airbnb app from Yale shortly after the reservation is confirmed. Guests have access to the whole house, all four levels, patio, yard, and the back of the garage. The washer and dryer are in the lowest level. Guests do not have access to a small owner area near the lower level nor the front of the garage. All parking is outside in a driveway that will accommodate 3-4 vehicles. We live in Midland and would love to meet you if you desire. The check-in process is keyless so you can come and go as you prefer. If you need something, however, we are just a message away. Schambra House is a family-friendly travel experience. We are a non-smoking and pet-free property, with 10 PM outdoor quiet hours (respectable voice levels are acceptable). The house is fully stocked with towels and bedding/pillows all of which have been laundered especially for each guest down to the mattress and pillow protectors and each layer of bedding. You won't need to worry about cuddling up under the blankets and comforters here. They are fresh each time just for you. We provide 2 toilet paper rolls for each bathroom (please use that provided as our sewer system is historic just like the house) and 1 paper towel roll.
