Summary:
The Little Window sits on the High Street of Moreton-in-Marsh, a bustling market town known as ‘the gateway to the Cotswolds’. Dating back hundreds of years, the traditional Cotswold stone cottage is full of unique charms and quirks that'll transport you from modern 21st century life.
The Space:
Inside, discover beautiful traditional features that have been sympathetically restored over the years. An inglenook fireplace, exposed wooden beams and stone walls complement the many antiques, curios and paintings that adorn the walls. Having been recently renovated, the period features are tastefully complimented with new mod cons to make your stay as convenient and comfortable as possible!
Upstairs, the two double bedrooms feature gorgeous antique furniture, homely furnishings and local artwork on the walls. They share a modern bathroom with a luxurious waterfall shower, marble wall tiles and generous toiletries to use freely during your stay. Outside, the small but charming courtyard area is available for you to store your bikes!
The property itself is a grade 2 listed building which has undergone a full but sympathetic restoration at the start of 2021, allowing it to maintain the charm and character of a property of its vintage whilst still benefitting from modern appliances and heating systems. However, when staying here, guests must be aware that there will be uneven floors, winding staircases and low beams and doorways.
The Cotswolds, and Moreton in particular, have long been a centre for those interested in Antiques. Indeed, The Little Window was, for many decades, a fascinating curiosity shop run by one of the town’s local characters. For the art lover, on the ground floor is a small exhibition of oil paintings and drawings by the locally-born artist Nick Chaundy, currently a professor at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. These are for sale to guests upon enquiry.
Whatever your interest, The Little Window can cater for anybody with a love of the Cotswolds and an appreciation of traditional arts and crafts, and it serves as the perfect retreat from which to explore this intimate landscape.
Guest Access:
The property is accessed easily by car with a free parking space directly outside it - although this operates on a first-come-first-serve basis and does not need a permit. There is a small private courtyard at the rear that can be used for the safe storage of bicycles. Moreton-in-Marsh railway station is a 10 minute walk away and the town centre bus stop is 5 minutes from the property. It is therefore perfect for both longer stays and short weekend breaks.
The Neighborhood:
Moreton-in-Marsh is one of the most vibrant of all Cotswold towns, with its famous Tuesday markets, numerous independent shops, award-winning restaurants and traditional pubs furnishing the High Street where the property is located.
The magnificent countryside surrounding the town offers a refuge for wildlife, walkers, cyclists, and all those who have an appreciation for the preservation of the particular and distinctive characteristics of the Cotswolds. Immersing oneself amongst the hills, the hedgerows, the dry stone walls and the ancient scenery, one is taken back to a bygone age which existed before the advent of modernity.
Getting Around:
Moreton is very well connected to the neighbouring towns of Broadway, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water via several bus routes, whilst the railway station (on the London Paddington mainline service) also allows guests to access other famous destinations such as the City of Oxford and Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon.
Other Things to Note:
Owing to the age, size and construction of the property, we regrettably do not allow dogs and would recommend against children of toddler age.
The cottage is right in the centre of a bustling market town, meaning all the local amenities are at your finger tips. However, it also means there is potential for noise.
Interaction with Guests:
