Our cozy rustic cabin will make you forget all about the hustle and bustle of the city. Nestled in the mature pines (this area did not burn in any of the fires!) we are close to all the amenities Summerhaven has to offer including world class hiking trails, rock climbing, Ski Valley, and restaurants and shops. Kids can play in the woods behind the cabin or at the stream at the base of the road!
A brand new deck has been built September 2024. Same cabin but bigger and better outdoor space!
The Space
This 70 year old 850 square foot rustic cabin is well appointed with a great room/kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and 1 bathroom. The two small bedrooms will sleep 4 people comfortably with a queen bed in the master and 2 twin beds in the guest room. The kitchen is stocked with silverware, cooking items, and utensils. The great room offers a comfortable place to snuggle up with a book, play piano, warm up in front of a roaring fire, or enjoy a movie. The additional deck space is a lovely spot to view wildlife and relax in the temperatures typically 20-30 degrees cooler than Tucson.
The cabin is accessible via approximately 20 stairs with open side rails. As there are steps to ascend and the balcony is not fully child-proofed, you will need to be careful if you bring young children.
Guest Access
There is a keypad on the front door for access. There is a "loading zone" parking spot up the hill at the base of the outdoor staircase leading up to the cabin. Permanent parking is in a clearly marked spot at the base of the hill, about 45 feet away. Please do not leave your car in the "loading zone" for more than 15 minutes as it blocks access up the road to the cabins beyond.
*** WINTER ACCESS ***
In the Winter months, you will most likely need to have a 4x4 vehicle, all wheel drive, and/or snow chains, to rent the cabin, since mountain access is restricted to such when there is snow/ice on the road. Please stay up to date with weather conditions and call the Road Conditions Line for updates, which can be found by googling: "mt lemmon road conditions line" (I'm not allowed to post the phone number or link here). Also you may have to walk through snow to get up to the cabin as only the base of the road is plowed.
Other things to Note
The cabin does not offer a washer/dryer or air conditioning.
While there is a General Store right up the road, plan to bring all of your food and drinks up the hill from Tucson.
There is no trash service on the mountain so you will need to pack out all your leftover food and trash. We will be forced to charge you $75 PER BAG of trash left in the cabin.
We now allow house trained dogs under 30 pounds. There is no smoking anywhere on the premises. We appreciate you keeping all food and drink out of the bedrooms.
Mt. Lemmon water is mountain spring water and we drink out of the tap.
There is cell service on the mountain. As for cell data, T-Mobile and AT&T work very well and Verizon gets some coverage in the evenings and early mornings. We now offer WiFi through a T-Mobile hotspot!
The cozy fireplace is for you to use, but you must bring your own firewood. You can purchase this at the general store down the street.
DIRECTIONS:
Take Catalina Hwy all the way up the mountain and into the town of Summerhaven. Drive through the town past the Lodge and the General Store and the Cookie Cabin. Past the Cookie cabin on the right side of Sabino Canyon road you will see a turn off for Carter Canyon Road. Do not take that right, but turn left about 10 ft past that opposite of Carter Canyon Rd. There is a little cement bridge that crosses the creek with a metal crow on a street address marker and a manual lifing gate. Cross over the bridge and drive a short distance to the right up the hill and 12700 will be on the left.
Please call with any questions.
