Very nice
Jim is super responsive, and the place is very unique. If you don't mind the ride in and out, which indeed is pretty bumpy, this is a fantastic getaway. Took us one night to get used to the sounds but afterwards it's quite magic. Tap water was the best I ever had in the US.

Wunderbare Erfahrung im Regenwald
Wer es abgeschieden mag, ist hier genau richtig. Es war herrlich ruhig, nur der Klang des Waldes zu hören. Der Weg zum Haus ist abenteuerlich.😉👍🏼 Unbedingt Allrad mieten für die Fahrt dahin. Das Vermieterehepaar war sehr nett und hat super Tipps für die Reise gegeben. Die Früchte aus den Garten waren sehr lecker, Danke. Alles in allem eine tolle Erfahrung, ich würde jederzeit wieder dort übernachten. Herzlichen Dank, Mahalo

Worst stay of our vacation
Major issues: 1) Chosen verbiage that a non-sedan vehicle is "suggested": this is nothing other than misleading. Upon realizing the hellish conditions of the road I looked at similar accommodation in the area and found that a lifted vehicle was always listed as "required". When I finally heard back from the host (more on that later), he was incredibly dismissive and stated he had "never" issued a refund for this common complaint in 8 years of hosting. It comes across as scam-ish. Especially when considering other postings in the area. It took us about an hour to travel a bit over a mile and SURPRISE, I was in fact given a refund by VRBO after they saw footage of the drive and agreed the listing was misleading. We received a refund for our unused nights on our reservation. Yes - this drive was so bad we actually changed our accommodation. 2) Host communication: Upon booking (2 weeks in advance) I sent the host a message - did not hear back. Sent a message the day of the reservation - did not hear back. Sent a message after staying the 1 night - did not hear back. Called the host later that day in the AM and PM - did not hear back. The following day the host informed me they'd been traveling for 16 hrs. This excuse was not acceptable to me as I had been trying to reach them for over 24. If you know you're hosting AND leaving town, why would you not inform your guests that you may be unreachable for such an extended period of time. 3) How the host handled situation - sucked.

Lovely 2 night stay
The property and home is amazing, we stayed for 2 nights and it was perfect. Although the road to get there is problematic for non locals and would recommend arriving in daylight and ensuring you don’t attempt without an SUV or a vehicle with high ground clearance and large tyres. Would stay again.

This property is approximately 25 minutes down a very rugged and difficult road. This is back very deep into the fern forest and you must have patience traveling down the challenging roads, once you leave the pavement, it's best to have a vehicle with a taller base and not close to the ground. I would definitely recommend a truck or an SUV with a high wheel base. Additionally be prepared for an all night orchestra of the local flora and fauna ecosystem. As soon as the sun goes down, you will hear this orchestra of birds and other forest dwelling creatures begin to sing. The singing will continue until approximately 1 hour after sunrise. Therefore I recommend you bring fantastic earplugs unless an all night noise of the forest dwellers will not be a bother to you. During the daytime or daylight hours, it is extremely quiet in this area.

Awesome Place
Loved it! Jim is an extremely gracious host, and responded to my queries promptly...The property is as listed, and you'll have access to about 2/3 of it...lot's of interesting fruit and ornamental trees and the garden/yard is very therapeutic to sit in or walk around. The yurt is very clean and cozy, and all of the basic needs were met! Great for an adventurous couples' getaway. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Tropical Adventure
This was not your average Hawaiian vacation. The neighborhood was very rural and very beautiful. The drive to the property is no joke, but do-able with 4WD. It's more than worth it to sleep with the sounds of the rainforest all around you and to wake up with the sunrise and the birds in the morning. The modern amenities of running water, electricity, and Wi-Fi are also a huge plus. Everyone we met around the town and neighborhood were incredibly kind and welcoming. Overall, we had a great time during our stay. There's no where else I would have rather stayed. The plant and animal life was truely unique.

Birthday Extravaganza!!!!!
We get there and the light is left on just as Jim mentioned in his welcome meggage. We never got to met Jim, but we did meet several of the wonderful frogs and birds that live around the property. The peacefulness at night was my favorite, even when it rained. Jim left us a pass for admission to the volcano national park and what else can I say other than amazing, (The Steam Vents are everything) I worked on the star wars puzzle a bit hopefully I gave someone a good start to finishing it. Best 49th Birthday, Jim was an excellent very helpful host. I do hope to be able to visit again. Very clean space, bed was comfy the only thing missing was absolutely NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH YEAH!! We had a blast driving the roads we rented a jeep compass and it was great

Loved the yurt
This yurt caught my attention because it was so unique. We loved it. It was absolutely awesome. The craftsmanship was truly amazing and the wrap around lanai was fantastic. We played cards & enjoyed listening to the rain in the afternoons. If the property would have been just off the paved road (Rd F) this would be our new home away from home and we would come back again & again. It beautiful & quiet, simply put, it’s the rain forrest at its absolute finest, but unfortunately the roads getting to the property are so brutal that it took 2 full days to work up the courage to drive back out on those roads again to see the Hilo area sights. It’s a full 30 minutes of body shaking & teeth rattling coming AND going. That said, the yurt was pretty awesome & it’s location kind of forced us to slow down & take it easy since we didn’t leave for 2days. All and all, we’re glad we had the opportunity to stay in such an awesome place. When we did venture out on those roads again, the volcano park & the waterfalls were amazing to see. Such incredible beauty!

One beautiful location
Our stay in this beautifully appointed yurt was unique and relaxing beyond words. Nestled deep in the tropical forest area was a place to completely unwind and relax. It was an adventure getting to the property, but what is life without a little adventure? The accommodation was clean, well supplied and the communication with our host was pleasant with quick replies and good directions on getting there.

We had a great stay at this Jungle Yurt. The yurt itself was fantastic, had everything we needed for a nice quiet escape. It was nice being in a tent in the rainforest hearing the frogs and the rain. Only negative is the location is well down a beaten, bumpy path. Nothing that we didn't know based on other reviews and the properties description. Once you got down the road it was close to Volcano and Hilo.

Rainforest retreat at its finest
My husband and I wanted to stay in Hilo, but when we were looking, there were not many places available and then we came across James’s listing. I’m so glad that we did! While it is a bit of a drive off the beaten path, it is well worth that drive. It is a beautiful property and the accommodations themselves in amazing condition. There were so many amenities available to guests, you couldn’t have asked for more. We hope to be back on the big island soon, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at James‘s property again.

Good Glamming.
The yurt was clean and neat in more than one. I enjoyed looking at the construction of the yurt and how everything was put together. The 360 degree covered lanai was nice to get out of the occasional rain you will find in this area. Overall it was a nice stay. We day tripped every day and the way we planned was to have only one round trip on the unpaved section of the road in and out. The road rock gets old but plan ahead and take your time and its not too bad. About 20 minutes of rough unpaved roads coming and going.

We absolutely loved our stay! We found it easily with our Google maps and then driving up the road further to the actual address. We arrived after dark, no problems! We did rent a jeep (recommended but I feel an all wheel drive is fine) be prepared for a bumpy road but well worth it. We were greeted by coqui frogs which played a song to sleep every night! Morning wake up call by roosters and hawaiian birds. Jim and Jane were fantastic and thoughtful. Some days we didn't want to leave. We spent long mornings just photographing the birds, geckos and plant life. I highly recommend! Everyday Jim had an offering of advice of places to go. Excellent hosts! Thank you so much! We'll definitely return! Stayed 8 days and not long enough.

It was clean and well supplied. Really nice host and hostess. I didn't see any cockroaches or mosquitoes. The bed was comfortable. The chairs were not comfortable and the TV had no cable or even Roku. The road was rough, but we enjoyed the stay.

Amazing Yurt!
My 13 yo grandson and I loved the adventure of the location and staying in a yurt. You must have a 4x4 vehicle with clearance to handle the 25 min drive once you leave the highway. I was a tiny bit concerned for the first few blocks, but then became confident and enjoyed the adventure. The yurt is more of a spacious condo than camping. It has all the amenities! Jim was very helpful with sightseeing advice. The grounds are fun to explore with fruit and berry trees and lots of flowers. The coqui frogs are a nice reminder that you are in the rain forest! Highly recommend.
