Ideally situated away from the noise and bustle of Bali itself, about 1km inland, surrounded by olive groves, easily accessible by car from beaches and supermarkets. The owners’ villa next door is screened by trees so you have privacy. The beds are comfortable if you like a firm mattress, there is a/c in both bedrooms and mosquito netting built in to all windows except the poolside French windows, where there is a voile curtain.
BUT the website states that there are sofas in the living room – incorrect. There is a long wooden bench seat with firm seating pad and scatter cushions along the back and arms – this was extremely uncomfortable. In addition there were 2 carver-style chairs – this was the sum total of the indoor 'casual' seating. There was also a dining table and chairs - these were too high to be able to sit with one’s legs under the table – and, on the pool terrace, a big glass table and 4 dining chairs. Plenty of loungers and parasols and the pool itself was a delight. Another inaccuracy concerns the a/c – the website states that the villa is air-conditioned – it is not! The 2 bedrooms are, but there is NO a/c in the living room.
The kitchen equipment was adequate and the fridge/freezer large enough for a family of 4; the dishwasher, however, was tiny – you would need to use it after every meal. The washing machine worked extremely well – BUT why are there no manuals in the villa? It is all a matter of guesswork - luckily we found an English-language manual for the w/m on the internet (the signage on the machine is all in Greek) and managed to work the d/w by pressing buttons at random until something happened. No ice-cube tray was supplied – again, this is basic stuff, one shouldn’t have to run around at the beginning of a holiday to make up for the deficiencies of the agents and/or owners.
Poolside lighting is programmed to come on at dusk: for the first 3 days it did; thereafter it came on after 10pm – hardly conducive to poolside BBQs! We alerted the agents twice, but nothing was done about it. To be fair, however, they did react quickly when we texted them about the lack of an ironing board, and one was brought within the hour. The pool was kept spotlessly clean and the villa was cleaned twice a week with changes of bedlinen and towels, so no complaints at all on that score. The owners just need to spend a bit of money on a couple of Ikea sofas and do an inventory check between lets; it would then get 5 stars.
