Welcome to our weekend/vacation getaway. Located in a quiet neighborhood in Hacks Neck & only 0.9 mile to Vir-Mar Beach. From the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources: https://dwr.virginia.gov/vbwt/sites/vir-mar-beach/ "This small sandy beach offers an excellent vista at the confluence of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. Visitors can see large concentrations of wintering waterfowl, wading birds, terns, osprey, and fall migrating sanderlings, and monarchs butterflies. Strong offshore storms often bring interesting pelagic species to this spot. On humid summer evenings, the site may be a cacophony of gray and green treefrogs’ loud choruses. On clear days, the Smith Island Lighthouse can be seen, as well as the shores of Maryland."
Take a short drive to the historic fishing village of Reedville: https://www.virginia.org/Cities/Reedville "Near the Chesapeake Bay, Reedville is an historic fishing village founded in the 1860s by Elijah Reed from Maine, and is home to a thriving menhaden commercial fishing industry. From the 1890s through the early 1900s, Reedville was the wealthiest town per capita in the United States, and the number one “port for tonnage” of fish landed for 125 years in the country. Reedville’s wealth is manifest today by the Victorian mansions that line its Main Street, called "Millionaires" or "Captain's Row."
Several sport fishing charters are available for the recreational fisherman. Every May, the town plays host to the Reedville Fishing Derby, featuring cash prizes. The Reedville Fishermen's Museum is located in the center of the town's historic district and houses a replica of the John Smith Shallop, “Spirit of 1608”, and several Chesapeake Bay workboats.
4th of July is always celebrated with a community parade and fireworks. Other annual events include a Wooden and Antique Boat Show in September, an Oyster Roast, a great Christmas Tour with a tablescape exhibit, and Model Train exhibit. Reedville is located near the Tangier and Smith Island Cruises, with four wineries, numerous restaurants, golf courses and historical attractions nearby."
