Homestead Cabin in the Ozarks, w/ a view!

The Homestead Cabin rests above the Little Mulberry Creek in the Ozarks of Arkansas. It's surrounded by the Ozark National Forest, miles of dirt road, and nature.

The Homestead is a one-room cabin with a full bath and a kitchenette.
We are a beautiful 1.5 hour drive from Fayetteville or Ft. Smith, a 2.5 hour drive from Little Rock or a 6 hour drive from Dallas. It's a perfect getaway for a few days.

In addition to the indoor cabin amenities you will be able to enjoy the fire ring out front. Many meals and many memories have been made here. We also have a cool, clear swimming hole on the Little Mulberry that is perfect for the warm summer days.

WE ARE REMOTE.
Be prepared to drive down 6 miles of dirt road.
NO CELL SERVICE.
There is no cell service in this area. The cabin does have Wi-Fi but have the driving directions available without cell service before you arrive. They will be sent a week prior to your arrival.
FOOD AND GAS.
The nearest grocery store is an hour drive and the closest gas is 15 miles, locally owned, and closes early. Don't show up with no food and on an empty tank. :)
WE ARE HERE.
Our home is within view of the cabin. We are close enough to provide assistance if needed but far enough away to allow you privacy.

We have dogs, cats, and free range chickens. Some pets may be allowed as guests. There is a $50 pet fee. Please inquire before your arrival.

Very nice and peaceful
The hostess was very nice and accommodating. The cabin was clean, cute and peaceful. She has the heat on and the temperature was perfect upon our arrival. There was a nice note explaining things in the cabin. The hosts live about 75 yards away so if we needed anything, they were available. However they left us alone to enjoy our stay.

Lovely little cabin that served as home base for our hiking adventures.
Cute cabin with everything one could need. Pick up some groceries and bring a sense of adventure. Property exactly as described, excellent directions, kind property owners and the sweetest doggos. We enjoyed a relaxing thanksgiving weekend here. Thank you for hosting! Byrds adventure center is nearby with a camp store for small essentials if you forget something.

A clean, comfortable well equipped cabin. True to description by owner.
This little cabin is a jewel. The owners, Jill and Rex, are very welcoming. The dogs were so much fun and the cabin is equipped and ready for you to bring your own food. Jill has described the property precisely. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. We will be returning to this property.

Cozy cabin tucked away in the Ozarks
Jill's cabin was a great resting spot for us as we were making our way through the Ozarks. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet place to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We are from Dallas and the location of this cabin worked out well. It had all of the essentials plus a wide range of DVDs. Thanks Jill for hosting us!

Amazing but.....
This place is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. I would not go back for just a single night stay again because getting there is so much that it's really not worth a single night. Jill attempted to prepare me for the drive up and all that entailed but I don't think that was possible. We drove on the very bumpy gravel road for an hour and 10 minutes and only drove about 9 miles total. That's a long time to not have confirmation that you are going the right way because it truly does not seem like you are for quite some time. The directions given by Jill were perfect except for the fact that if you doubt that you have followed them correctly, there is no way to confirm or not and zero cell signal to help. There were 3 of us ladies in the car, two grew up in the country of Arkansas and the other the country of Mississippi and none of us had ever been on any road like this before. My Toyota Camry made it just fine except when we encountered a couple of things that appeared to be cement speed bumps in the midst of this gravel road and driveway. One of them on the driveway actually bottomed out my car and we really thought we had some serious damage for a second. However, I will say that once we got up to the cabin and saw the beauty of everything, all of the worry of everyday life dissipated immediately. We would absolutely go back for a 2+ night stay. I would prefer to only do 3 or more though and I would absolutely LOVE to go back for 3 soon. It was quite a trek to get there and you absolutely need to believe that you better have every single thing you need because there is no option for "running to the store". Again, this place was absolutely beautiful once we got there. Was disturbed to hear about the "copperhead season" AFTER we walked around in the dark picking up sticks for the fire. If you are going to get there even close to dark, bring firewood for the first night. Then you can scavenge for more around the property the next day during light. The owners house is right there but they did not intrude on our time which was nice. Lola, one of their dogs, kept a watch over us the entire time we were there which was super cool. I have never been around that breed so it was fascinating to watch Lola guard us and the property so intently. She was super sweet. There is one thing I feel the cabin needs though, it needs at least a convection oven. That would make a huge difference for those staying a while, I believe.

Nice Clean Cabin in the Forest
This cabin is definitely a great place to get away from everything and relax in the quiet forest, surrounded by tall trees, to enjoy the best nature has to offer. As the description and other reviews say, it is very remote, so as long as this is what you're looking for it will be perfect. Being deep in the forest, it's always in the shade and thus was cool for us day and night even without the A/C. It was a great experience to hear all the sounds of the forest throughout the night, and to be away from any road or city noise. It's also close to several great hiking trails and parks. The area has several dirt roads (scenic yet a little bumpy), which I was able to handle with my regular sedan, but if you have a truck it will be a lot easier and you'll be able to go a lot faster. I was able to use my car GPS and it got me there and around all the roads (dirt and paved) without issues. The cabin is clean and tidy, with a large comfortable bed and nice shower, no bugs, no smells, no surprises. We didn't have any issues with mosquitos or ticks around the cabin or on the trails. As mentioned, be sure to bring everything you'll need for the day/night since the nearest town is a ways away. In the cabin Jill has provided recommendations and directions to some of the nearby hiking trails and parks, and a few books you can use to learn more about the area. This was a great experience, and if you're looking for a remote paradise in the Ozark National Forest, this cabin is highly recommended!

Immerse yourself in the Ozark National Forest!
My husband and I recently stayed at this cabin for four days during our first trip to Arkansas. We both agree that the time that we spent at this cabin was the most memorable part of our entire, 10 day trip - we absolutely loved it! As the name implies, this cabin is remote! If you are expecting to stay in the woods and pop into town as you need for dinner or supplies, this is not the cabin for you. However, if you want to really "see" and "hear" the Ozark National Forest without sleeping in a tent, then this is the perfect getaway. Though Jill was out visiting family during our stay, her husband Rex (and their three, friendly dogs) made us feel right at home. The cabin is on the property of their home (which is good in case something like a flat tire, etc. does in fact happen) and we had a great time visiting with Rex! If you love and appreciate nature, this is the perfect Ozark destination. The cabin is located on a high spot in the Ozark National Forest and in the evenings, the clouds roll in and blanket the entire area with cool fog. We loved sitting on the porch of the cabin and watching the fireflies dance and listening to the grey tree frogs call. We saw a ton of wildlife, including a 3-toed box turtle, snapping turtle, and several Luna moths. We also saw some cool critters at the nearby swimming hole. The cabin is very close to a trailhead for the OHT and we were able to do some area hiking (although in retrospect the summer is not the best time to hike due to the ticks!) Though it takes a bit of driving, the cabin is not too far away from Hawksbill crag (a must see) and the Buffalo River. We managed several great day trips during our stay, but our favorite part was returning to the cabin every evening for the peace of the forest. Again, I must reiterate that the location is remote; however, if you exactly follow Jill's instructions (followed her map - not Google's, fill up your gas tank, check your tires, and bring your own food and beer) you will have no trouble whatsoever. The cabin had everything we needed to be able to feed ourselves, including pots and pans, utensils, an outdoor hibachi, and a small fridge (and it was very organized!). The AC kept the cabin very cool at night and we were incredibly comfortable. I cannot recommend this cabin enough for folks who really want to experience the beauty of the Ozarks. Thank you so much Jill and Rex for opening a piece of your home to us. We are already planning a follow up trip!

Peaceful and quiet
My best friend and I met here for some much needed R&R before her wedding day. It served its purpose well and we enjoyed our stay. However, I think it is important for others to know that the cabin itself is not "remote" or very secluded. The owner's home is no more than 50 yards from the cabin and within plain sight. The view in the photos is not the view from the cabin--it is the view from the owner's home. With that being said, the owner and her family gave us all the privacy in the world and were great hosts. We also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the pets in the property. I would recommend this place to anyone unless you are really wanting to be far from ALL people.

Beautiful hideaway
Very thankful for the time we spent here! You are literally in the middle of a gorgeous forest. The views are breathtaking, the water is clear and cool, and the fireflies are everywhere at night. The cabin is great, but the property is why you come. Jill was super friendly, loved her dogs, and my dog had the time of his life! He was worn out when we got home. A great vacation for our family, would highly recommend to anyone. Perfect place to get away from it all.
