The Neighborhood:
Pocono Lake, Pennsylvania, United States
Locust Lake Village is a sleepy mountain community in the heart of the Poconos mountains, and you're ideally situated to enjoy northeastern Pennsylvania's famous local skiing, tubing, and waterparks! You’ll be 15 minutes from Jack Frost, 20 minutes from Big Boulder Mountain, and less than 25 minutes from Camelback Mountain. Plus Kalahari Water Park, the largest in the US, is only 15 minutes away! Enjoy a day of adventure in the Poconos and then return to your snug mountain retreat, to whip up a meal in the well-appointed kitchen and relax with your family.
World-renowned Pocono Raceway, aka ‘The Tricky Triangle’ is only 10 miles from our Chalet. You’re only minutes away from world-class racing excitement! On non-race weekends, speed enthusiasts can get a taste of the action with a thrilling Stock Car Racing Experience and behind-the-scenes track tours.
If you’re in search of more entertainment, Mount Airy Casino is only 30 minutes away. Slots along with table games are plentiful at this energetic casino where, aside from gambling, you can catch concerts and other entertaining shows, plus a great spa.
The Poconos is truly a four-season destination and there’s always something new to explore! Other local attractions include:
-Jim Thorpe. The historic town, just under 40 minutes away, features the Mauch Chunk Museum and Cultural Center which details coal mining history and the life of the town's namesake, Native American athlete Jim Thorpe. Stroll the quaint Main Street, window shop, enjoy great local restaurants.
-Scranton – Electric City! There’s more to Scranton than just Dunder Mifflin (aka the headquarters of ‘The Office). Families love the Electric City Aquarium, Steamtown National Historic Site (trains!) and the Lackawanna Coal Mine tour (ride in a coal car, imagine you’re in Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom…? Okay, just us. That’s cool).
--Hiking –
Enjoy the fresh air and abundant trails! The Poconos offers hiking experiences for those with any level of fitness or ability, from a short stroll around a lovely lake (nearby Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area is minutes away) to a more rugged trail at nearby Tobyhanna State Park or Hickory Run State Park or Big Pocono State Park. Or drive less than a half hour and jump onto the 28-miles of Appalachian Trail within the Delaware Water Gap.
We highly recommend spending a day exploring the Bushkill Falls, one of Poconos’ loveliest locations. Open seasonally, this park contains a series of 8 waterfalls connected by wooded hiking trails and bridges.
--Rafting
The Poconos is well-known for its world class whitewater! Enjoy dam-release weekends on the Lehigh River for extra thrills, or choose a calmer rafting experience that's fine for family members ages 4 to 94.
--Shopping
Have a rainy day? No worries! The Crossings Premium Outlets is only 25 minutes away in Tannersville.
Getting Around:
We recommend exploring Locust Lake Village and the Poconos by car so you can really take advantage of everything the area has to offer! Pines Lake and East Lake are a few houses away so you can easily walk to there, but if you'd rather not carry all your beach gear, there are parking spots at all LLV's beaches.
It is possible to reach our Chalet by Greyhound bus to nearby Mount Pocono or Blakeslee then taxi/uber to the house, if you plan on having a quiet reclusive weekend.
