Owner not engaged with his properly
The cabin itself is absolutely darling—cozy, well-stocked, and fairly priced. Unfortunately, the experience was soured by the owner's communication style and lack of responsiveness.We had requested early check-in a month in advance and never received a response. When we arrived early (hopeful but understanding), the cleaner had not yet arrived, so we left. We returned just 30 minutes before the 4 PM check-in time, and cleaning still hadn’t started. I texted the owner (the only way he communicates—he does not respond via the booking app), and was met with a snarky reply blaming us for not texting earlier, despite our prior request and nothing in the listing stating texting was required.The cleaner eventually arrived just 10 minutes before official check-in. She was lovely, worked hard, and even went out of her way to get us smaller firewood because what was provided didn’t fit in the stove. She was respectful of our work retreat and did her best under the circumstances.We ended up doing the sheets/towels & had to purchase more appropriate firewood the next day. When I reached out to the owner about a partial refund for cleaning, his only response was, “Was she not there by 4?”—ignoring the broader issues—and then threatened to charge us for early check-in (that we had requested weeks prior and never got a response to). He did refund in the end.I’ve stayed in over 50 VRBOs—some perfect, some with minor issues—but never encountered an owner so dismissive/rude.
