Places of interest:
Sagunto:
The CASTLE is a fortified area with walls surrounding seven squares on top of a hill. Its strategic position on top of the hill was key to controlling access from land and sea, which is why, although it is known as a Roman castle, it shows a fusion of cultures that have passed through the city (Iberians, Romans, Goths, and Arabs). The views are impressive and admission is free.
The ROMAN THEATER dates back to 50 AD. It is located on the mountainside and thanks to its excavated location, it provides impressive acoustics, so performances can still be seen.
The JEWISH QUARTER is one of those magical places where it's worth getting lost in its streets. It was the main Jewish quarter of Valencia, and in fact, it is known that after the expulsion of the Jews by the Catholic Monarchs, a few remained here and established commercial relationships with the converts of the capital. The layouts are very well preserved.
If you like to learn about the history and origins of cities through artifacts and memories, the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM is a must-visit (free admission).
In the city center, you will find the CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA, on the site of the former main mosque of Murviedro (the name of the region that refers to Morvedre, the old name of Sagunto). Its construction (14th to 18th century) combines Gothic and Baroque styles.
Next to the Church of Santa María, we have one of the oldest treasures of Sagunto, the Remains of the TEMPLE OF DIANA. With various structures around it, such as cisterns and roads, we can read prayers to the Goddess Diana on its walls.
After exploring the historic center and immersing ourselves in the history of the city, it's time to stroll through the streets of the center where you will find the Town Hall, the Plaza Mayor, and the areas where most of the leisure and dining options are concentrated.
Near the center, you can admire a good example of Valencian Gothic architecture, the CHURCH OF EL SALVADOR, built after the reconquest by Jaime I. Very close by is the Domus dels Peixos, an important Archaeological Museum.
If you prefer nature, you can choose between the sea or the mountains.
The ALMARDÁ BEACH is quiet and beautiful, but if you prefer sandy beaches, the CANET BEACH seems ideal, especially for going with children as it is spacious, has good parking, and offers beautiful views.
If you are more into the mountains, within an hour you have the CALDERONA SIERRA NATURAL
