Manoir de La Sauzade is a beautiful, classic, French country house, built in the 18th century, within walking distance of the historic village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne. Intended as a home-away-from-home rather than just a holiday let, every detail has been chosen with care. The main house together with the cottage sleeps 19 and is ideal for inter-generational family gatherings, holidays, reunions, corporate retreats.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The ground floor consists of an entrance hall with curving staircase, a large dining kitchen and a separate family sitting room lead off to the left, and a formal dining room and sitting room to the right. Behind the dining room and formal sitting room is a downstairs bedroom with a stone fireplace, and its own bathroom. (Bedrooms are described below, two (twin and double) are located in a separate cottage with its own small kitchen and living space.)
One superking bedroom together with a bathroom is located on the ground floor, and the sweeping staircase leads up to the other bedrooms in the main house, which look over the front lawn and swimming pool.
The house is furnished with antique furniture. It has a TV, Playstation 4 and Dvd player. There are many books as well as games and DVDs, a children's toy cupboard, table tennis, and some outdoor games.
There is a covered terrace to the side of the house for relaxing, drinks, dining, as well as a further covered eating area on the main lawn with a barbecue.
The swimming pool is heated and separated by a wall and safety gate from the main garden. It is surrounded by a travertine terrace and is equipped with loungers, deck chairs and a table and chairs for reading, or doing the crossword!
Dove Cottage opens onto the back courtyard of the house, and comprises a living area, with cooking facilities, a bathroom, additional toilet, a twin-bedded room and a small double room. It has it own small terrace for breakfasts, or a quiet read.
The kitchen has an electric oven with a gas hob and a very large circular table, for family dining. Attached is a separate scullery with fridges and a washing machine. There is an outside rotary drying line in the garden, as well as racks in the covered barn area at the back of the house.
There are two sitting rooms, one adjacent to the kitchen for family gatherings and the other, more formal room, adjacent to the formal dining room. There is a Hi Fi in the formal sitting room, a selection of CDs, and also a large collection of books in the cupboards.
The picturesque village of Aubeterre is a 600 metre walk away, with its restaurants, wine bars, shops and market. There is also a river beach and canoeing at Aubeterre, as well as tennis courts.
