This part of Lake Scugog is the best for swimming, fishing, and wading. The water is always warm and the view is spectacular. My partner, our two teenage daughters, and our 2 yo Aussie Shephard had a great time. The yard is private to both neighbors and the road is not busy with traffic. The nights and mornings are very quiet and peaceful here. The deck spans almost the whole back of the cottage with amazing sunsets and easy access barefoot into the water; the lake bottom has no sharp rocks and is soft underfoot. It is perfect for very small children and pets, or adults that are afraid of swimming in large bodies of water (no drop-off, no weeds, no tides, and you can walk out 30 ft and still touch the bottom). The cottage itself is well-equipped with supplies, but bring your own bbq utensils and bedding. The beds were comfy, but a little snug (I am used to a king size bed and we shared a double).
This was a home away from home vacation spot and we all loved it. We cooked meals instead of going out, but ordered some take out for dinner one night we were there and it was cheap! We rented a pontoon from across the lake at Scugog Island Marina (pricey, but worth it!) There is not a lot of motorized boat traffic on the lake. We mostly saw canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and sailboats. The lake water is consistently clean on the east side whereas the Port Perry side has poor water quality.
Nearby is a supermarket which is within walking distance and there is an LCBO less than 5 mins away by car. The hosts are good - it was a seamless check-in and we were in contact at check-in by phone (we arrived an hour late!).
Another pleasant and rare thing, was that we were able to rent the cottage for four days/three nights. This was especially great as it fit our family summer schedule and gave us some much needed time together that was the perfect length of stay for everyone.
Would highly recommend to families, avid bass fisherman, couples, or a friends getaway.
