Welcome to the Still Water Trail Studio, your quiet cozy retreat overlooking Sequim Bay, in the heart of the Olympic Rain Shadow (sun!), and neighboring the Olympic National Park. Your cottage is situated overlooking Sequim Bay with private gate access to the Discovery Trail. Kayak the bay, grab a free bike and ride the Discovery Trail, fish the bay or strait, visit the National Park, stroll downtown Sequim, sip wine, or soak in a sunset. Whether relaxing or adventuring, Still Water will renew.
Life on Sequim Bay allows you the space to slow down, reflect, enjoy the people around you, and take in the beautiful surroundings. And when you need an adventure, the diversity of options is second to none.
Walk out the back gate of the property and you are on the Olympic Discover Trail, leading you east toward Sequim Bay State Park or west toward John Wayne Marina and downtown Sequim.
Walk or bike 5 minutes you are on the beaches or boating the waters of Sequim Bay, a secluded bay adjacent to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Walk 10 minutes west on West Sequim Bay Rd to famous John Wayne Marina and Dockside Grill (make sure you get reservations! And allow for an extra 5-10 minutes if you take the Discovery Trail). Sequim Bay is famous for being the favorite yachting stop of actor John Wayne. Many of the locals on West Sequim Bay, including the former owners of the cottage/farm, developed friendships with John over the many years he brought his yachts into the bay and marina. Eventually John ended up buying over 100 acres on the bay and donating 22 acres for the construction of the marina in 1985. To this day, his family still owns much of the land surrounding the marina.
Drive 5 minutes or bike 20 minutes on the Olympic Discover Trail into downtown Sequim for a cup of coffee, wine tasting, excellent meal, or a stroll through the shops.
On a nice day, boat 45 minutes-1 hour across the strait to the San Juan Islands or Victoria, BC. If you prefer to follow the Olympic Coastline, head over to Port Townsend for a quick bite or formal dining at one of their great restaurants. If you don't have a boat, the Blackball Ferry will drop you off in Victoria Harbor, the heart of downtown Victoria. For the fishing enthusiast, take a private fishing charter (if the fishing is open). Ask us for fishing charter recommendations.
Drive 15 minutes and you are in the Olympic Mountains (Olympic National Park, Buckhorn Wilderness, Olympic National Forest) with endless mountain activities to choose from (hiking, mountaineering, fishing, mountain biking, hunting, snowshoeing, sledding, cross country skiing, etc). Contact us for recommended fishing and hiking guides.
Drive 30 minutes to the entrance of Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park, where you will find the best mountain views in the Olympic National Park (on a clear day) and endless high alpine hiking trails. In the winter, Hurricane Ridge is open for downhill skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing.
Drive 35 minutes to reach the Elwha River and its beautiful trail systems, including the 3.5 mile hike up to the old Glines Canyon Dam that was demolished in 2014.
Drive 45 minutes to Lake Cresent and Olympic National Park's Lake Cresent Lodge for hiking, swimming, boating, waterskiing, or a nice meal in the lodge dining room. Ride your bike or take an easy hike on the Spruce Railroad Trail, a paved trail that follows the remote north side of the lake. Try your luck at fishing for Lake Cresent's famous game fish, the Beardsley Rainbow Trout. Contact us for recommended local fishing guides.
