The house is equipped for self-catering. You have to bring sheets and towels with you.
Wifi (fiber broadband) and smart TV are available. The garden includes a barbecue and outdoor furniture.
Changeover day is Saturday, with arrival at 4 pm at the earliest, and departure no later than 10 am. Final cleaning, electricity and heating are included in the price.
The house was first a school built in the late 19 century in idyllic Skillinge. The village is an old fishing village that also has a harbour with pleasure boats. In the 1980s, the school was converted into a private residence. The gable and entrance to the house face the square where you can take the bus to Ystad or Simrishamn if you want.
Inside the welcoming hall, you enter a large tasteful living room with high ceilings and beamed ceilings. A beautiful and typical wallpaper adorns the walls of the old schoolroom. Here and there are markers reminiscent of a bygone era, the chamber locks on the doors, the high skirting boards, the old switches, all in the old style. There is plenty of space for socializing, there is also a large dining table under the crystal chandelier and the old wall clock. A newly made wood stove based on an old Danish model adorns the room with its presence. (The fire-wood is stored right outside the door)
Next door is the kitchen which is bright and pleasant, it is a spacious kitchen facing the square. There is everything you could need in terms of utensils, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker.
Toilet with washbasin and shower is located next to the hall.
On the ground floor there are also two bedrooms with two beds in each room. The beautiful newly inserted staircase after the old model leads up to a family room with a view of the rooftops in the neighborhood. There is a seating area for socializing with a sofa bed, armchairs and flat-screen TV. There is an additional bed in the room. The master bedroom is also located upstairs with an adjustable comfortable double bed and a window facing the square. It is usually completely quiet at night, so you are going to sleep well in the house. Also upstairs there is a toilet with washbasin, shower and washing machine.
Outside, inside the gate, you will find a small garden, with a greenhouse. Partly the garden is paved with paving stones and cobblestones in a traditional style. There is a lawn and plants all around. There are several places to sit and enjoy a good meal.
The house is just a stone's throw from the sea. Right next to it there are cozy little alleys and walking paths that lead down to the harbor. Down in the harbor is Skillinge harbor tavern, Skillinge Hamnkrog, that should be visited! Very good food! There are more good restaurants both in and around Skillinge and in the other villages around. People in Österlen appreciate good food and good wine.
In Skillinge there is also a maritime museum that shows the town's rich maritime history. A small and interesting museum. Within walking distance there is a grocery store.
A larger grocery store is located in Borrby, they are open from early morning to late evening. Next to the grocery store in Borrby is Gamla Bakeriet, the Old Bakery. Everything they bake is delicious! The sourdough breads, the breakfast buns, the delicious cakes, they also have a café with good coffee.
In the summer, Thulin's bakery is open. It is located at the roundabout in Skillinge, where you can quickly get hold of your breakfast buns.
You can swim in the sea in several places in and near Skillinge. If you want to take a morning swim, you either go down to Tudeludan in the harbor (at the harbor entrance) or to the pier opposite the football field and take a little swim. If you prefer to swim on a sandy beach, you drive three km to Kyl's beach. There begins miles of white sandy beaches.
Maybe you prefer to swim among rocks? Then drive to Brantevik, go down to Veakåsen (south) and go for a swim. So lovely.
There are many interesting excursion destinations near Skillinge. The medieval castle Glimmingehus is a well-preserved castle. It is located about two km away.
The Mandelmann Gardens are 30 km to the north. It's so beautiful and tasteful, you can also have lunch there. But book a ticket to the garden before you drive there. It is a popular excursion destination.
Many galleries and art exhibitions can be found in Österlen. A number of artists live and work in Skillinge.
The former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld's beautiful farm Backåkra is located about 20 km to the south. His private residence is open to the public. Well worth a visit.
Ale stenar, the Swedes' Stonehenge is located in Kåseberga. Go there! Hike up the hill to the large mighty rocks, and look out over the vast sea. In the shops below, you can enjoy smoked fish, buy an ice cream or perhaps buy a turned stoneware mug. There are plenty of local craftsmen in Österlen.
Kivik and the surrounding area are very special. The community is framed by a large number of apple orchards, both large and small. Slowly driving by or walking among the apple trees is an experience, both in the spring when they are in bloom and throughout the summer when the apples grow large. On many farms, you can also buy apple juice or a bag of apples to take home.
You eat a lot of asparagus in Österlen! The producer is located just outside Skillinge, where you can get hold of the best asparagus, Österlen Sparris.
If you play golf , there are several golf courses nearby.
The car museum in Simrishamn is really a must for those who like old cars. Autoseum is the name. You won't be disappointed.
