Ruhige Carriage House and Gardens in der geschichtsträchtigen Dorf von South Britain

Dies ist ein charmantes, zweistöckiges Haus gegenüber der Kongregationalen Kirche von 1835 im historischen Süden Großbritanniens und den umliegenden Ausläufern an der Grenze des Litchfield County. Es ist eine 75-minütige Autofahrt von NYC und 2 Stunden mit dem Bus entfernt.

Das zweigeschossige Kutschenhaus wurde 1795 als Teil des Haupthauses errichtet. Die erste Etage für die Kutsche besteht jetzt aus einem sehr großen Wohnzimmer und einem angrenzenden Fernsehbereich (Schlafzimmer 3 bei Nacht). Ein Küche- und Esszimmerflügel wurde mit Blick auf das Gelände hinzugefügt. Die zweite Etage ist über eine offene Treppe erreichbar. Das ehemalige Heuboden- und Stallquartierquartier besteht jetzt aus einem übergroßen Hauptschlafzimmer, einem Büro mit Gartenblick und Fenstern in 3 Richtungen, einem zweiten kleineren Schlafzimmer, einem modernen Bad mit Dusche und einem Wasch- / Trocknerbereich.

Angrenzend an das Carriage House befindet sich ein 450 Quadratmeter großer, von Himmel beleuchteter 3-Season-Raum (April bis Dezember) mit vielen Pflanzen, einem übergroßen Kamin, Lounge- und Essbereich, Buffet und Bar sowie Ausblick zu den Wiesen und Gärten. Dieser Raum eignet sich perfekt für Partys, Meetings, Konferenzen, Abendessen vom Buffet und sogar für Hochzeiten auf den Rasenflächen. Dieser Platz kann, falls verfügbar, tageweise gemietet werden, wenn Sie ihn haben möchten.

Historic South Britain
Charming and comfortable, lots of living space on beautiful grounds in picturesque small village. Collected objects of international art and crafts added to the enjoyment. Quiet and private with good internet connection and great suggestions for local food and necessities. Interesting and gracious host Jay was a trove of stories and information- but never intrusive.

Historic home
Impressive to be able to stay in such a historic structure. Was perfect for our needs in nearby Southbury. From the dining room the large piece of land offered soothing views onto a lush open field and beyond to thick woods. Loved having the host live so handy next door on the same property.

False Advertising
The house is only a 2 bedroom 1 bath NOT a 3 bedroom. Luckily my future son-in-law was willing to sleep on the couch. It says it sleeps 8 people. I only had four adults and they charged me an EXTRA $150 for my "EXTRA" 2 people for 2 nights. None of that was stated before I made the registration and paid. The house is in a good location for hiking and checking out small towns IF they have a true and accurate description and tell you if they are going to charge you extra for any number over 2 occupants. Not happy at the additional charges and lack of bedrooms - I believe I should get a refund.

Lovely property - check-in was awkward
The host was surprised by our pending arrival even though we were booked months in advance and paid in full a month month before. Seems he had not checked the VRBO app in a while. I had not received check-in instructions so a couple days before, after messaging through the app, a text and finally a phone call , I got a hold of Jay who asked "did you just book it?" but he was very apologetic when I explained we booked well in advance. We arrived 30 minutes after check-in at 3:30 and dropped off groceries but decided to give them more time to clean the property and my family home was only 10 minutes away. When we came back things were all set. The only other communication with the host was he requested us to turn off the bathroom light at night as "electricity is expensive in CT." It was merely a night light so I unplugged it that night. We only slept there as we were out most of the day at weddings and reunions, and did not have a chance to enjoy the yard. We left the place clean and tidy, but it could use a good vacuuming and dusting upstairs. Pros - lovely location, great yard, quiet, full kitchen with supplies, dishwasher, coffee options. The carriage house is cozy. Cons - only AC in one bedroom and we used both rooms, it was quite hot upstairs a couple of days. The shower is very small and you need to turn off the water to lather as there is a glass shelf in an awkward location. Overall, a lovely property near the Audubon trails.

Cute, Charming, Reasonably Priced......Perfect.
What more can I say about Jay's carriage house? I don't want to call it cozy because it's not that tiny. Back in the day it was a carriage house for the horse and buggy, but has now been converted into a wonderful little getaway. Two bedrooms, one is huge with an adjoining office type area. The beds had memory foam mattresses, and were so comfy. We didn't need them, but there's a washer, and dryer upstairs. I must have missed that in the amenities. The dining room offers a wonderful view of the large backyard with two private terraces. We didn't take advantage of the fire pit, but did enjoy a nice hike at the Audubon Center which is only two minutes away. The kitchen has everything anyone could need including a tiny dishwasher. The architecture is amazing. There's all sorts of little closets here, there, and everywhere. My wife, and I got there late in the evening, and had to leave early on our checkout day. The house is connected to the main house where Jay lives. But, you still have all the privacy you could need. I would definitely like to book it again, and stay longer. Thank you Jay for a wonderful stay.

We loved staying here. Very well equipped historic carriage house in beautiful location, very close to an Audubon sanctuary, which we visited a number of times. plus, the property has chairs and tables so we could sit outdoors. Would definitely visit again.

Our host was gracious and the property relatively charming but it could have used a little better attention to detail. We realize that seeking 'Pet Friendly' accommodations will generally somewhat compromise aesthetics but decor and furnishings could have been more cohesive and appealing. In addition, the main television failed early during our stay and the host was unable to facilitate repair. Not a big deal, be we do like to watch the news and weather before heading out for the day's activities. Also, parking can be problematic when tradesmen, service people and owner's guests are present. Exiting the driveway can also be dangerous due to overgrown bushes and shrubbery at the street end. Road noise is also an issue if windows are kept open during evening hours. With that said, we had an reasonably enjoyable stay and would probably return.

Westover Reunion Weekend
Jay was a wonderful host. The property is cozy and charming. The outdoor space lovely. If booking, please note the beautiful photo of the screened in porch with stone fireplace actually does not come with the rental. The owner told us we could rent for additional $100/night; however, it was full of personal items. Also, there are only 2 bedrooms upstairs each with one full/queen bed sleeping 4 if necessary. A queen size been was set up in the alcove of the living room. So, no privacy there. Nevertheless, wonderful memories were made, and we had a happy time.

The carriage house was a quaint, rustic haven. The kitchen was well equipped and dining area spacious. Jay was very pleasant and accommodating to our requests. We would rent this home again! I’ll bet it is especially lovely in the spring.

Everything as anticipated. Simple home with everything we needed for an extended weekend. Decent restaurants within a 15 minute drive. Plenty of walking locations nearby. Clean and quiet. The backyard is a nice amenity. Not ritzy, but just fine for family. Host was very accommodative.

Property not in best shape. Stove didn't work and host promised a rebate for that. Other things didn't work. When we asked for rebate for non working items he kicked us out after 5 weeks. He admitted to being treated for dementia and made up reasons for kicking us out with no refund.

Beautiful property
We had a nice overnight at the carriage house. The property is lovely and a good place to relax. We didn't have time on this trip to partake of all the local activities, but would like to return, to do so. Our friends were able to bring their pet, so that was a wonderful convenience. Had a nice time playing yard games in the large, well-kept backyard, and cooked ourselves dinner. Had some confusion, at first, with working out the initial details and check-in, but it all worked out in the end. Would return!

This is a shared house. Not very private. No Air Conditioners, there were only screens on some of the windows, and some of the windows wouldn't stay up so got very hot one night. One of the stove burners is out. Only one knife available so bring your own silverware. WiFi is spotty. The host was nice and friendly but place needs major updates.

Buyer Beware
This was a very poor experience for my first with Vrbo. This property list a Fireplace and 3 season room, however, the owner will not allow you to use it unless you pay extra. This was not provided before I rented the property, which I wanted in order to hold my family's Thanksgiving. The house smelled musty when arriving. The owner did not tell me how I would get into the property, I had to call and ask. He had a sink installed the day before we arrived and the sink was sitting on the back entry way. The house was not clean especially where the sink was put in there was dirt under the wrong on the floor the countertops were filthy. The bedspreads also smelled musty. We were not provided the internet password and did not receive until we asked several days later. The owner parked his electric car in the entryway, which was not great when inviting elderly family members over for visit. The TV downstairs is a very small computer size screen and the TV upstairs did not have a remote. The owner wanted me to write him a check for additional guests that he thought I had overnight but my daughter could not stay there due to smell of home and stayed with a relative. I have been trying to get the owner to reach out to me since I arrived home but they have not taken the time to respond. VRBO is a joke since they want the owner to respond and will not honor my dispute of the property. I would have left the first day arrived but due to circumstances with family and arriving a day later that I was supposed to, I stayed at this property. Unfortunately, either Vrbo or the owner cares about the person paying. Next time I need to visit family I will find a hotel that is 3 star and it would be better than this location. Lesson learned the hard way, don't waste your time on this one.

We loved our stay in this 1795 cottage that was renovated and up dated. Easy to find location, great communication with the host, very clean and remarkably neat. Best of all I loved the yard with a garden. Full of sunshine and beautiful fall leaves.

This is a historic property. It is quaint and small, but offers all the comforts of home. Kitchen, living room and bathroom have everything you would need. Both bedrooms are relatively small, yet comfortable. The property itself is expansive and gorgeous. It is well kept - lawn, garden and woods are perfect for outdoor living. Driveway is plenty big for 4 vehicles/
