If you want to visit the true Scottish Highlands, skip the cities, just take pics at Glencoe and beat a path to Glen Dessary. It's a traditional hunting lodge nestled in the wilderness at the end of a long single track road - where you can leave the world and its worries behind. The lodge's isolation doesn't mean you're roughing it; quite the opposite. Well appointed rooms with en suite bathrooms and hotel extras. The dining room (with crackling fireplace!) and living room are comfortable and great for large groups. Our host and hostess plus friendly staff made our stay great with delicious locally sourced dinners, made-to-order breakfast, and help with laundry. They even pulled off a surprise birthday party for our group! Even though it's wonderful inside the lodge, the rolling hillsides and lakes are calling. We LOVED the fishing expedition! No experience? No equipment? No problem. Sir Patrick and Ewan were fantastic guides/teachers with all the necessary supplies to catch a load of brown trout. They even brought a kettle for tea with our lunches packed by the lodge. I could have stayed by the water forever but I didn't want to miss our return trip to the lodge in the all-terrain Argo Cat. It was a wild and thrilling ride through the glens and forests that lay beyond the road, with an occasional stop to spot majestic red deer in the hills. Thank you Glen Dessary!
