I should start at the beginning...Runaway Bay, or locally known as The Barrymore is THE first place anyone should look to for beachside luxury for a getaway. My wife and I needed a quick trip to recharge and, thankfully we picked Antigua and this property! The apartment was beautiful, supremely clean and stocked with well thought-out kitchen appliances needed for a beach trip. We took a 15-minute stroll to one of the local supermarkets to grab food supplies to stock the fridge and cabinets. Even though, we walked there, we took a 4 min taxi back to the apartment. We made fresh fish tacos and enjoyed the magnanimous sunset on the balcony. Ahhh, the balcony...now, not every apartment directly faces the Caribbean Sea, but I'll bet if we dangled our feet off the balcony, the tide would tickle our toes! There is no closer experience to being on the beach, at the beach, or in the water! Allow me to get to the rest. The apartment has two bedrooms and two baths, but since we were traveling alone for this trip, we only needed to pick one of each. The shower was hot, the water pressure was great and large towels were provided. The queen-sized bed was Goldilocks-perfect. The fans in the cathedral ceilings kept the apartment relatively breezy, while an AC unit in the bedroom kept us comfortable during the night, and it also helped to keep the mosquitoes that crept in during the day at bay. (a suggestion for mosquito-sensitive guests? Perhaps small Citronella incense for the balcony.) The sound of the sea lapping up while drifting off had beaten down the honk of yellow taxis in the big city back in the States. It told us that it was time to let the daily stresses of life melt away. And it was the first thing we heard upon waking in the morning...beckoning us toward its healing salt and sand. Beach towels and were provided, while lounging chairs were just steps away downstairs. And when we returned from the beach, there was a small tub filled with water next to the entrance to the door to dip our feet in to wash away the sand that clung to our feet. Nice detail, Runaway! Thank you to Brian, Linda, Michael, Jeremiah, and all the staff who took good care of us and made us feel welcomed. We will be back sooner than you can say, #7!
