The Lazy Bear...At Dolly Sods

Enjoy the natural beauty of West Virginia on your 1.4 mile drive through the woods to this remote, private log home on 23 acres (All wheel drive required November thru March). As they say, "Rough roads lead to beautiful destinations". Relax, unwind, and restore at this hibernation station. We are located in the heart of Appalachia on the spur of the Allegheny Mountains near the Bear Rock Wilderness Area of Dolly Sods. Smoke Hole, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, Greenland Gap, Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley, Mt Storm Lake, and two commercial caverns are nearby attractions. Stay a few days, see it all, and experience the genuine hospitality of West Virginia! Awesome!
This is by far the cleanest house that we have ever stayed in. Tonja and Trent were very kind and made sure that we had a wonderful stay. The house is beautiful and away from everything. The lane was a bit rough but it tells you that in the description of the property. Glad we drove our truck. If you are thinking about renting this house I would say go for it!

The cabin was beautiful and very clean! The house comes with towels for the hot tub, which is not listed. While we enjoyed our stay, the owner does come to the cabin every day to check the hot tub. I just felt this was very unnecessary and it was not mentioned anywhere.

The cabin is wonderful and accommodating. But, there are a couple of things future renters should know in advance. The cabin is at the end of a 2-mile heavily rutted dirt road. It's a tough drive. Cell access is spotty, even with wifi. Also, don't count on using GPS to get there or elsewhere in that area. I suggest that you download and print driving directions to anywhere you intend to go.

As soon as we arrived, all four of us said we weren't leaving. The pictures and description doesn't do it justice. Everything about it was perfect. The setting, the porch, the hot tub, the serenity, the size of the rooms. It was close to the destinations we wanted to visit. The host is very nice. He thought of everything for his guests comfort. We will definitely be revisiting this place. visit.This is one we would It was very clean.

This cabin is secluded and a perfect small facility getaway. The cabin is clean, well decorated, and just like the pictures. Each of us loved every moment there. Thank you for a beautiful weekend away. The road coming into the property is rugged for about a mile.

Comfortable stay and amazing hospitality
My husband and I, along with two other couples, came here to celebrate my 40th birthday. The drive was in the rain and it had been a long night, but Trent (the host) made sure we got up the long driveway with no issue, told us about nearby places and how to work the fireplace and other things in the cabin. When we got settled in we saw that a welcome note and pepperoni roll was there! The cabin was extremely clean and comfortable; it was also well stocked with nice extras like sugar, coffee, and coffee filters. They went above and beyond to make sure all of the guests felt comfortable and enjoyed their stay. I am definitely planning on coming back!

Comfortable & nicely furnished modern log home off the beaten path (high clearance vehicle best). Dolly Sods hiking very close and other attractions within 1 hour. Bluegrass music 7pm Thurs at Mullins in Moorefield my recommendation.

Beautiful Comfy Get-Away House
We stayed here with our family for our daughter's wedding. The groom's family stayed in the Hummingbird House. Both houses were roomy, comfortable, and clean. We felt right at home with everything we needed for cooking, eating, sleeping, and getting prepared for the big day. Everything met or exceeded our expectations.

Peace & quiet near Dolly Sods
We had a wonderful stay at Trent & Tonja’s cabin. Trent was very friendly. He popped by to check on us once. The cabin is clean & very well equipped, especially in the kitchen. The hot tub was warm & ready to use when we arrived. Master bed was comfortable (the only one we used). Shower pressure was great (I didn’t want to get out). It was the perfect place to relax after hiking & berry picking in Dolly Sods.

Amazing property!
The husband and I stayed at The Lazy Bear for a long weekend and it was absolutely perfect. Trent and Tonja have done a fabulous job with making their guests feel at home in their cabin. Dreamy weekend getaway
Trent and Tonja were excellent hosts - they were very communicative leading up to and during our stay and made the check-in process as easy as could be, including detailed directions to the location and a day-of weather report. The property and home were gorgeous and clean with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Some of our favorite parts of our stay included the hot tub, the outdoor fire pit, and the variety of board games available in the living room. We also enjoyed walking around the property and seeing the local wildlife, including woodpeckers. This was perfect for a holiday weekend getaway in the woods, and we definitely plan to return to the lazy bear!

We absolutely loved this cabin! We spent the weekend to celebrate our son's 4th birthday. We enjoyed a trip to the North Pole Express which is only an hour drive. The cabin is perfect and extremely clean. The kitchen and house is fully loaded for your stay. It is secluded and relaxing. Our GPS didn't pick up the exact location but it was close. Thankfully Trent was happy to lead us to the cabin. It felt like home from the second we stepped in. We would love to come back!

Peace and harmony
I'm a germaphobe and I stayed at the lazy bear worry free. Trent and Tonja keep this place spotless up to date and very well stocked. That said someone out there will find a reason to complain so I'll throw them at you first. WiFi is slow and the water smells like metal. That said, the cabin is so far up the mountain that I'm amazed they have any service at all. And that's exactly what I was looking for. This place was as far off the beaten path as you could go before you lost all services. Beautiful cabin, wonderful landscape, new appliances and amazingly hospitable hosts. Really enjoyed campfires with marshmallows and morning coffee on the deck while counting the deer as the sun rose over the mountain. Quiet and peaceful. No noisy neighbors. The cabin has dish network but you won't need that at all with the serenity and joy found playing games with your loved ones gathered around the table or sharing stories by the fireplace. Plenty of soft fresh towels for snuggling up in after a dip in the six person hot tub. Even cooked on the grill which was so clean I thought I could have been the first to use it. Overall a tremendous stay at a fantastic place with incredible owners. If your looking for peace and harmony, look no further. Also, take a look at their other property, the hummingbird. Thanks Trent and Tonja for a great week.

Relaxing Weekend for 2
We had a wonderful weekend away at the Lazy Bear! We were so impressed with how clean, cozy and peaceful it was. We went for several day hikes -- the hosts provided us with maps and recommendations for when and where to go -- and then were glad to come back to the Lazy Bear to relax and rest up. We saw lots of deer, squirrels and woodpeckers, and the fall foliage was stunning! Highly recommend!

Relaxing cabin getaway.
The cabin is beautiful and comfortable with rustic charm - all the comforts of home. Hosts were actively involved with helping us find our way, as cell service is basically non-existent near the cabin for navigation. The wifi signal is a bit slow/weak, the water is ferrous (though hosts do provide filtered water and solve this problem for drinking), though outside of hiking, the local areas don't offer much to do. That said, it's cozy and in beautiful country (especially when the fall leaves are changing). Trent and Tonja were very welcoming and their cabin made for a great Sister weekend, despite the unlucky weather. Hot tub, living space, kitchen, and firepit made things amazing. And they don't expect over-the-top cleanup after your stay. Highly recommended.
