In 1840, artisans built this house in the Federal architecture style, which was popular in the United States from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century during the Federal period. This style combines classical and neoclassical architectural elements, emphasizing symmetry and balance in design. Its most recognizable features are a central front door with sidelights and a fanlight above. Evenly-spaced rectangular windows with semicircular arches surround the door. Federal architecture also incorporates decorative elements like ornate moldings, dentils, and friezes. The house, constructed primarily of wood, boasts multiple brick chimneys. High ceilings, grand staircases, and formal rooms are adorned with decorative moldings and millwork. As you explore this house, you'll experience Federal architecture's elegance, simplicity, and distinct sense of balance and harmony.
