This property is a charming farmhouse, extended over the years to accommodate its original family, and now modernised to be a comfortable home-from-home. We are a family party of 7 adults, and we had plenty of room to hang out together (even on rainy days) or find separate spaces.
The house is well out into the Umbrian countryside, at the end of a track some distance along a "white" road ie made from compressed grit. There are beautiful views of tree-covered slopes in all directions, with the odd house in the distance.
Perugia airport is nearest, but we arrived in Italy via Pisa airport because the flight schedule suited us better. This gave us a drive of around 3 hours.
What greeted us on arrival was a superbly clean, welcoming house. The kitchen is well-equipped for almost any sort of cooking/food preparation you could imagine, with plenty of pans, crockery and cutlery. There is a UK adaptor for the gadgets from home you might need to plug in.
For those who are bothered about such things, the house comes with a plentiful loo roll and soap supply. The supermarket at Umbertide is 1/2 hour drive away BUT it is well-stocked on the fruit/veg front, cheese, fresh and cured meat, bread (rustic "paviours" and sliced loaves), butter, fresh milk, pasta in all states, sauces, wine, chocolate etc etc. (Washing powder is relatively expensive, so you might want to BYO).
We found plenty to entertain ourselves around the house and pool, and further afield (rail trip into Florence, parking at Cortona; motorboating on Lake Trasimeno). We had a coeliac in our party who was easy to provide for (decent gf selection in both Pisa and Umbertide Coops). This dictated our choice of restaurant for Sunday lunch, but we were all delighted with the agriturismo "Calagrana" which was relatively on our doorstep (and whose hostess is English, for those who might consider sending an email to book ahead). The pasta was delicious and we would recommend it unreservedly for a special meal. It certainly fitted the bill for somewhere to celebrate our daughters' birthdays.
Matt the host is very on the ball about replying to questions - we wanted to know how universally cards were accepted (everywhere, except smaller shops). We had a lovely stay, and a wonderful time with our family.
