Beautiful Chateau in wine region
We had rented the entire chateau for our family vacation (15 adults and children). It is located just outside of Valreas, a little elevated, overlooking the vineyard - the Chateau also produces its own wine.
Valreas is a nice town and close to all that Drome and Vaucluse have to offer (Grignan, Carpentras, Avignon, Mont Ventoux, Baume de Venise, Vacqueras and many more wine villages).
The Chateau is old and exquisitely renovated to modern luxury standards.The 5 bedrooms on the first floor are large, furnished with antiques and each have an ensuite bathroom. The second floor has 2 apartments, with 3 bedrooms in total. All the bedrooms, as well as the downstairs living rooms have air conditioning.
The downstairs living is nice, with a high ceiling and a piano. There are 2 dining rooms and a large kitchen with 2 dishwashers and 2 fridges. There is a washing machine for guest use as well. Everything in the house is of very high / luxury standard.
The pool outside is clean (salt water / chlorine mix), perfect temperature, and adequately sized, though being octagonal in shape perhaps not big enough for lap swimming. There is ample pool side seating, lounging, dining as well as a bbq. There are 2 large gardens for playing, with additional seating and a swing. From the pool deck you have a great view on the sun setting over the vineyards.
The owners are very friendly and can provide dinner service (we used this service 2 times and it was great) and can also arrange a tour in the wine production facilities and a wine tasting (located next door). We did this and loved it.
The only 2 things to keep in mind when booking this house:
- We were under the impression that we had rented the entire house, but one of the upper bedrooms apparently was not included. We needed this room for our group (15 folks / 8 bedrooms), and could have it but, but had to pay an extra fee, which was an unpleasant surprise. So ensure you are clear on exactly how many bedrooms you have included in your whole house rental.
- The owners themselves occupy an annex to the house - this has a separate entrance and a closed off internal door from the living room. It did not bother us at all, but if you are looking for full privacy, something to keep in mind.
All in all, a great location, a wonderful house and great hosts. We will definitely consider to visit again.
