WILDLIFE:
This wooded lot is home to a lot of wildlife. None are gentle and all are timid of humans. The best way to watch and enjoy them all is to respect them and be as calm and quiet as possible. Watch them from inside the cottage or sitting quietly on the back porch. We feed the wildlife every morning. The deer get their corn in the driveway, and the squirrels, turkeys, and wild birds’ feeders are in the back wooded area, so don’t be surprised if you glimpse me, or my husband walking by to refill the feeders and/or the watering troughs as needed. We do promise to be quick and to always respect your privacy. Just open the blinds early so you can enjoy the view!
The wild birds and squirrels are always around, the deer come for corn in the driveway every morning and they will pass through periodically throughout the day and night. The turkeys often spend hours here and sometimes they just pass through depending on their seasons. There is also a possibility of catching a glimpse of a cottontail rabbit, jackrabbit, possum, racoon, gray fox, skunk, coyote, bobcat, or wild boar.
The deer will bear their fawns starting in about mid-May through July or so. Don’t be surprised to see a tiny one lying all alone hiding somewhere on the property. Try not to disturb or frighten it, this is normal behavior. Mama knows where it is, and she will come back for it when it is time to nurse.
There is a nesting pair of Barred Owls that are here daily and nightly. During mating season, they sometimes make a lot of strange noises, mostly at night. I always say it sounds like the trees are full of monkeys! Google Barred Owl sounds and you’ll probably agree with me 😊
THE NOT SO DESIRABLE WILDLIFE:
And lastly, let us not forget that there are also lots of rodents, insects, snakes, frogs, lizards, and geckos that live here as well. They are part of the whole wildlife experience.
We do use insecticides regularly inside the cottage, but never outside, as
SECURITY:
There are two 24/7 motion activated audio/video security cameras on site. One is overlooking the driveway, and the second is a video doorbell at the front entrance.
There is also a third 24/7 motion activated audio/video game camera located next to the bird bath area along the side of the cottage. It faces the woods, away from the cottage, only to capture wildlife.
