Thank you Dee for a lovely experience. After 17 hours of travel from the east coast, arriving at this clean, beautiful, quaint, and quiet lodging was a dream.
Check in –
It was so simple – I texted Dee to give her an idea of when I would be arriving and when I got to her home (very easy to find), the door was unlocked and the key on the table. The room is what I think is called a mother-in-law apartment. Its an extension of their home with its own entrance and full bathroom. We barely heard them and we never crossed paths (but that was by choice).
Lodgings –
The space was extremely clean and beautifully decorated. You can tell Dee put a lot of thought into the décor and furniture. There was an ornate coffee table that was carved out of wood and artwork throughout. The bed was California King size and very comfortable. The bathroom was big with a jetted tub and separate shower. There were ample bath and beach towels for our use. Host also provided toiletries which was great. There isn’t a kitchen but there is a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishware, silverware, seasoning and some other kitchen items you may want to use. We weren’t looking to cook so just having a fridge to hold our milk, yogurt and beverage was great. Having the coffeemaker was a huge help in the mornings. During our stay, we saw there were vents for central air but it was not turned on so we can’t say how it was. The days we were there, it was really nice out in the evenings so we had the windows open and the fans on for a great breeze. The place is in a private residential street so at night it is extremely quiet (which we loved) and you could stand outside and see the stars and the moon shine brightly.
Dee was nice enough to loan us beach chairs, umbrella and a cooler. We could have borrowed more beach items but we didn’t need to.
Location –
The lodgings are located in an area called Waikoloa. Its about a 10 minute drive from a KTA grocery store, gas station and a bunch of restaurants with different price ranges. If you drive about 20 minutes west, you will get to the area where there are number of resorts, shops, restaurants and a Foodland supermarket. The location of Dee’s place could not be beat – we were close to Waimea, Hawi, the Kona coffee farms and beautiful Hapuna Beach.
Overall we had a lovely time and would definitely stay again when we return to the Big Island. Her place is clean, warm, welcoming and a true gem. - Mahalo! - Michelle & Erek
