Facilities
Whanganui Haven is a spacious self-contained unit by the Whanganui river with your own private garden and outdoor dining area. The unit also has its own private and lock-able entry.
The queen bed is very comfortable (according to guests who have stayed) and comes with electric blankets. Your car can be parked right next to the unit, and there is good lighting for night access. At night, your vehicle is safe as the main gates are closed.
Whilst we provide complimentary breakfast supplies and a complimentary dinner for one night, the unit also comes equipped with a cook top, microwave, cutlery and crockery, towels, TV, heater, and fan. The bathroom is a combined shower and toilet, and toiletries ae provided.
We are usually onsite for any enquiries, and can supply extra meals and laundry services by arrangement if needed and for a small fee
Insect screens are installed in the unit enabling you to fully enjoy the benefits of indoor-outdoor living during the summer months. Being fully insulated and double glazed unit ensures that guests can enjoy an incredible degree of quietness and peace during the night.
Location and Access
Whanganui Haven is located 10 mins drive or 6 km from the Whanganui township, and it is easy to find as it is on a major road and bus route that runs parallel to the Whanganui river. It also on the famous Te Araroa Trail, and on the cycle trail from Upokongaro to Whanganui.
Your Hosts
We (Mandy and Stephen) are your hosts. Mandy is originally from the UK, and Stephen from Malaysia. They have three grown-up children who have now left home. Both Mandy and Stephen are well travelled and have lived in various international places (Canada, India, Malaysia, Fiji, Australia, Japan). Stephen is General Manager of a non-profit entity, is also involved in edu-tourism with American universities, and is co-founder of the AI (artificial intelligence) Hub in Whanganui. Mandy is a Counsellor. Mandy and Stephen are very experienced and passionate hosts with extensive knowledge and love of Whanganui, NZ and Māori history and culture; and enjoy sharing this with guests.
There is usually one one of us at home at any one time ensuring that assistance (and company !) is never too far or long away !
