It was great to be able to access Mount Vesuvius, and we were fortunate to have a stunning day. There was definitely an advantage in going with a 'tour' to reduce the hassle factor. The activity itself was well organised, however the bus itself was in need of a makeover. Some of the seats were permanently semi reclined which was difficult for passengers behind them. As a popular destination it is very disappointing that there are no public facilities, yet they charge for people to access the mountain. The shops and cafes are not great and the toilet that my friend used in the cafe was described as digusting. Such a shame as this left us feeling disappointed with the overall experience.

Basically a ticket tout. It is impossible to book tickets for Vesuvius directly because they are all bought up by tour agencies who then resell them for more than twice the price. We should have been able to access vesuvius for €22 (€11 an adult and free for children), instead we were forced to pay £80 via this company, and others doing the same, despite trying to get tickets when they become available. This behaviour should be banned as it is rife throughout Italy.

Not really a skip the line. If you need transfer to the top, which you more than likely will, you still have to queue to pay/book (which is an extra €15 per person). Then they give everyone their entry tickets whilst getting in the bus.

The volcano itself is fantastic, as well as the view from the top. I highly recommend making the trip. BUT make sure you buy bus tickets in advance for a specific time slot. I bought tickets at the Vesuvius Express bus station at 1:00pm but wasn’t allowed on the 1:00pm bus, I had to wait until 2:00pm. You are forced to buy a round trip ticket as well (I went from Herculaneum to Vesuvius and then took a different bus to Pompeii, so I didn’t need the return ticket to Herculaneum). ALSO everything I read states that it is “an easy 20 minute hike” to the top of Vesuvius. I am a physically fit 26 year old and would not call it easy, as the climb is quite steep with loose/ slippery gravel. Would not recommend for small children as the barriers between you and the side of the cliff are flimsy with big gaps. On the plus side, the path is very clear and free of obstacles (not like hiking in the woods). Maybe that’s what they mean by “easy”.

Arrived just in time for our slot. Couldn't retrieve the tickets as WiFi advertised was not working. Found a helpful stall holder who let us use their WiFi. Downloaded tickets to find there were only 2 tickets, instead of the paid for 4. Decided to let the kids go up, and we would wait in the car park. Went back to the entrance and was refused entry as our alloted time had expired. Total waste of time and money.

A lot of money for nothing! A waste of time: you pay for the entry + the overpriced audioguide (OK if we had been able to do the Gran Condo). It took some time to drive up to park the car (we payed again) and then payed for the shuttle to the visitor centre (EVERYBODY WAS TAKEN THERE!!!). Then you are not allowed to enter due to strong wind (which is absolutely OK in means of security). WHY NOT INFORM IN ADVANCE??? Just stealing money and leaving everybody disappointed.

The hike and views are amazing but if you are driving we got charged €12 for parking and then another €12 for the ride up which was less than 4minutes. The driver and a parking men were rude. The downloaded guide was informative and the information provided onto entry was good

The activity was amazing, wear proper shoes as it’s like walking up a sandy rocky dirt path. It does seem a little expensive as there is no travel up to the national park and EAV public buses are unreliable! Tickets for the bus can be purchased at Pompei scavi train station and the bus stop is directly opposite the exit. The walk up is breathtaking and good fun however for the money we paid it does seem a little overpriced. I don’t think you can get it much cheaper anywhere else though…
