The architectual structure is impressive! The huge lobby & the water/ fire fountain display are one of a kind. The resort is way too large to be luxurious. So important to know: EVERYTHING IS AN UPCHARGE! Nobody knows this info, it’s not apparent when you book. You want to use the famous Cloud 22 pool? It’s insanely expensive! You want to sit outside at Milos & look at the fountains? Massive minimum spend per person. Using the Spa without treatment? Entrance fee! Etc.! It is absolutely ridiculous and inappropriate to charge your guests for everything you promote about the hotel.
The worst thing about the hotel is how LOUD it is. MUSIC EVERYWHERE from 10 AM to 12 PM. The breakfast in the famous cafeteria style restaurant is merely ok. There are large quantities of food but the quality is very lack luster. It seems like they really try to save money on the food. The fruit is sub par, you have to get everything except drinks yourself, during our 11 night stay, we did not manage to eat even one acceptable serving of avocado - something that should be normal for a 5 star hotel. We met some of the most unfriendly employees we have ever encountered in Dubai at the breakfast hall of the Royal. The employees would not even greet you back or say please & thank you at the healthy corner, it was just bizarre. Also: if you want another order of coffee etc. 5-10 minutes before the breakfast is finished - forget about it! „The machine is already shut off!“ was the standard response.
