"We chose the G&C for an overnight stay after a day at Chatsworth House, due to its location and proximity to the house. The welcome was bright and warm, just like the rooms. The rooms were spacious and modern, well decorated and clean, with comfy beds and great facilities. Tea and coffee were good and the bathrooms were clean and tidy. We chose to take breakfast and dinner in the bar. The breakfast was lovely and set us up for our journey. The dinner the night before was a touch disappointing. The veggie sausage and mash used the same cheap vegan sausage used for the breakfast, which we're not appropriate for a hearty evening meal. This is not the fault of the chef or pub team but a poor choice by the menu development chef at head office. Other than suggesting you look a little further afield for dinner, I'd recommend the G&C for a short stay in the Derbyshire Dales. The team made us feel welcome here."

"Food, excellent. Room, comfy, well furnished and spacious. Facilities, very good. Close to transport links and the nearby Matlock Bath. But the best thing of this stay were the staff. They looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. They were ran off their feet as they were looking after guests, dinner service and private functions. But did it extremely well. The owners should take heed of their staff’s dedication to running the hotel and reward them. "

"Very nice hotel and welcoming staff would definitely stay here again. surrounding area is good for walkers. Lots of fish bars and cafes but no convenience store spar co-op etc however matlock is 2 minutes away by train. Not a cheap area to eat out but where is nowadays."

"Our squirrel room was amazing and the Gulliver theme park on your doorstep was great. It is like living inside a book story, my son so much loved his bunk bed he didn’t want to go home. We had a lovely time full of adventures. "

"We booked both the rooms so it felt a bit like our own unit to ourselves. The instructions for our arrival were clear, and it was easy to park outside. The rooms are lovely and the bathroom is really well appointed, but we would have liked some hooks to hang the towels and/or any wet clothes, or instructions for the heated towel rail - yes, it rains in Derbyshire! There are lovely walks right from the doorstep, and Bonsall is really near to Cromford and Wirksworth (where we were attending a wedding) as well as Matlock Bath. The village is quiet (this is a positive for us!) and everyone we met was really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast in the popular tearoom downstairs was delightful :) Would recommend."
