We rented this cabin for a little relaxing getaway before our children started school. We were hoping for some good ol’ family bonding and good fishing. It did not disappoint!
We pulled into the cabin late. Even in the dark we could tell that this cabin was not like the cabins surrounding it. This is a true cabin nestled between beautiful new lake homes. But it’s ok, your not here for a fancy lake home.
The cabin has some nice updates, everything you’ll need in the kitchen and a nice bathroom, but it still has that cozy cabin feel. There are lots of amenities to this place that you don’t always find at a rental such as supplied soap, towels, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, coffee and even food items.
Let’s head outside, THIS is what you came for! Although the lake is a recreational lake and it was a holiday weekend, it was VERY quiet. We saw a handful of pontoons, a few fishing boats and two jet skis. We didn’t bring any water toys but that didn’t stop our family from enjoying the lake. You’ll have use of a Lilly pad, canoe, kayak, paddle boat and other beach toys. The paddle boat is a little difficult to steer but just go, take it out, you’ll have a blast struggling to figure it out. Paddle straight out from the dock and start casting. You’ll likely reel in a few northerns and a bass or two. If you don’t have the patience for that just put a small chunk of worm on a hook and drop it to the right of the dock. Before the line settles you’ll have a sunny hooked. When the sun goes down, you’ll start reeling in catfish.
Between taking pictures of all the fish you reel in, you’ll want to be ready at about 7:30 to get all those family photos as the sun sets behind you. It truly is breathtaking!
Finish your day with a fire, pre set up by the host OR go into the cabin and relive your twenties with a dart board tournament! If darts aren’t your cup of tea, there’s also a large selection of games including 90’s trivia, cards, dominos and candyland.
A hidden little gem we weren’t expecting was a nice, easy 2 mile walking trail about 4 blocks from the cabin. It provided a good break from fishing.
Stop on your way to the cabin at Tales and Trails in Zimmerman for minnows or grab some worms at the Holiday station. You’ll need them!
This vacation was just what we needed and we look forward to visiting again, maybe this winter for some ice fishing. Thanks for the fun Lake Fremont!
