The hotel staff being the limelight, from when we entered the hotel till we exited, they were nothing less than fantastic, polite, efficient and courteous. „It was quite a journey from the station to the ryokan. Well worth it. Elaborate Japanese dinner and breakfast. Outdoor onsen. The new part of the lodge is 80 years old. It has been on this spot for 300 years. Quick bus ride to Lake Ashi next morning. “

„All the staff members are incredibly friendly. Although some of them had limited English skills, they made every effort to communicate effectively with us. Everyone was so helpful and welcoming, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of them. The building is very new, and the view was stunning—especially with the tall green trees, which added to the cool and tranquil atmosphere. I would definitely love to return and stay at this hotel again.“

"Sehr guter Service, toller Onsen und schöne Lage am Ashi See. Ich würde jedoch nicht empfehlen mit dem Bus abzureisen, da das einem glückspiel gleicht ob der kommt oder nicht. Das Hotel ist für mich ein must visit auf jedem Trip in die hakone Region. "

"Nice views of Mount Fuji from the rooms. A particular, very dated but at the time certainly nice architecture. Makes for a very charming experience. However, some areas urgently need to be updated, e.g. showers, sinks, blow dryers, etc. Everything was very clean, all employees very friendly. Good Onsen experience. Beds not overly comfortable. What was not OK was the food. There are no choices whatsoever. Only set meals for dinner and breakfast are included (at dinner, a very small and unattractive a la carte menue is also available). One cannot change them, there is no flexibility in the services provided. No explanations are given beforehand what to expect. Quality of food is mediocre, very repetitice from day to day. Some items were OK but overall we had a lot better food elsewhere in Japan. Steep prices for additional drinks, even coffee for breakfast costs extra. Overall I find this place nice, but overpriced. Would only go back if food quality and service are improved and prices drop and/or updstes are made. Because everybody was so polite and helpful and the outside setting is beautiful (but touristy, you are still close to Tokyo), we keep good memories."

"The best hotel we had during our three week stay in Japan. Absolutely mesmerizing views of Lake Ashinoko ( Mount Fuji on clear days) and a private Onsen (with real Onsen Water) in every apartment. Very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and a modern interior design with good ACs plus floor heating. The Projector comes with a decent Soundbar and Netflix, Disney Plus, etc. allow for movie nights as well. The food bath on the balcony is also a welcome sight after a long hike. Situated at a great starting point for Hakone Trips, with the Hakone Shrine, the Pirate boat and old Tokaido Road right next to it. Larger crowds unfortunately come with those attractions during the day, but can mostly be avoided in the early morning or evening, as most people take the bus or ferry to Motohakone. There are also a 24h 711 and a Lawson Convenience Store in town. Most restaurants in the area close very early or only accept reservations, so better plan your meals ahead. Busses to Hakone Yumoto, Odawara, Mishima etc. are stopping pretty much in front of the hotel. So arriving by Shinkansen or RomanceCar-Train is easy. Only big caveat: The Check In Information was not send to us by RakutenStay. I had to call a (very expensive) hotline on the morning of our arrival to finally get it. Expedia and RakutenStay should probably work on their communication to avoid moments like that in the future."
